Steve is mingling.

Well, he's going to congratulate them and then go sleep. 'Cause... yeah.

"Hey, congrats, you guys." Steve hugs April briefly, and JD longer. "That was amazing."

"We're glad you could be there," April says, and kisses his cheek. She's then distracted by someone or other wanting to talk to her, and she turns away a bit to talk.

Steve smiles sadly. "Seriously, man. You're glowing."

JD can't stop smiling. He really can't, though the sight of Steve makes his heart hurt and his eyes can't hide his concern.

"This... this is absolutely the best day of my life. I can't help the glowing!"

"It suits you." Steve hugs him again. "Seriously. I'm glad you got this."

Jealous? A little.

"Thanks!" JD hugs him back... but not too tight. God, it feels like Steve might just break under the pressure. "I'm going to check on you later if... that's all right?"

Wedding or not, JD won't let him go through this alone.

"Yeah, that's fine." Steve smiles tightly. "Hey, but if you don't mind, I'm gonna go lay down for a bit. Congratulations, though. Save me some cake."

"Okay. Sleep well."

The narration decides that Steve should meet Juliet before he dies, and so she just happens to walk up right before he leaves.

"I am so very happy for you!" Her voice is more than a little broken, and as she pulls away, she sees Steve.

She'd ask if he was all right, but she knows he's not. She knows that look. He's heart broken and dying.

"Uhm, Steve this is Juliet... Capulet. Juliet, this is Steve."

Juliet watches him for a moment, and simply doesn't like the idea of him being alone, not for a second. "Can I walk with you... to your room?"

Steve is not going to question the Capulet thing. He knows better. He looks a little surprised, but smiles, if bemusedly. "Yeah, that's fine."

He nods to JD, gives April a quick peck on the cheek, and heads to the stairs.

Juliet follows, quietly after.

Mostly, because the narration (and JD, the most persistent head voice in the world) can't stand the idea of him being alone right now, even if it is just to sleep

Juliet would have to agree, at any rate, so she follows Steve up with her head bowed.

"So." Steve keeps a hand on the wall to keep himself from losing his balance. "You have some reason for wanting to follow me?"

He's amused, not disturbed. It's cute, he thinks.

Juliet speeds up so that she's at his side and glances at him.

How to put it into words?

"It... I did not want to leave you alone, now." And then quieter. "I know how hard it can be and it's worse... alone."

Somehow, Steve can't bring himself to admit he's hurting, even though it feels like his throat's closing up with the utter pain of the world without Gordon.

"I don't... I don't know what you're talking about," he says faintly.

Juliet places her hand on his arm, gently.

"It's fine. You don't have to say anything."

She already knows.

He stops walking, just... trying to breathe, trying to remember to function.

It hurts so much, and he hasn't let himself really acknowledge it since last week. Deep breaths.

"I haven't said anything since the day it happened," he says softly. "I don't think that's right. I don't think that's good."

Juliet stops with him and moves in close to him.

"You can talk. I will listen, but please, can we get you to your room first? You don't look very good." Her eyes are filled with concern and understanding.

Her hands are shaking.

Steve laughs softly, bitterly. "Yeah. Okay, kiddo, c'mon."

He leads her to his room, grabs a soft flannel shirt off of the bed and wraps it around himself. "You... want cocoa or something?"

"No." Juliet's not entirely sure what cocoa is, but is not really concerned with that right now. "Please, sit... on the bed."

She hasn't moved very far away from him this whole time. Always within arms length.
