There's only six or seven REAL people in any given universe...

There's a handful of people downstairs who have nothing to do with one another but are getting only one post between them, because their narration is lazy and doesn't want to make six separate posts.

Florence is sitting towards the back of the restaurant, singing softly and off-key to herself. It's quite possible - nay, likely - that she's drunk ( Read more... )

It's just luck... or fate really that Sue notices Ivy crying behind the plant, but she does, however, and she sits down next to her, reaching out an incredibly hesitant hand to touch her shoulder, softly.

Not saying a word for now.

Ivy looks up briefly when Sue touches her. The thought crosses her mind that she should pull herself together, not let anyone see her like this...

Instead, she rests her head on Sue's shoulder and continues crying.

The contact is needed.

Sue hesitates again. She's melting. Her heart hurts and her fingers are shaking, but her face is so calm.

She reaches around with her other arm and pulls her into a hug, trying to ignore how quick her heart is thudding.

It doesn't take too long for Ivy to calm down - she's very used to being very under-control in front of people, never letting it show when something hurt her, or upset her. It's harder, now, with her hormones going crazy, but it's doable.

She notices, absently, that Sue's heart is pounding. She doesn't give it a second thought, though.

"Sorry," she mumbles, sitting up and scrubbing at her face.

"It's fine, Ivy." Sue says, looking at Ivy. "You don't have to say you're sorry. You're allowed to cry. I hear it's good to do sometimes."

She keeps a hand on Ivy's arm. "Are you all right?"

"Sure," Ivy says, smirking a little. "Just the hormones going crazy."

She's a good liar.

Sue won't push, but she's not sure how much she believes Ivy.

"Yeah, I hear they're a bitch." She stays close, closer than she's comfortable with... not as close as she wants to be. "There's nothing you want to talk about or anything?"

Doesn't hurt to ask. And it's better than staring at Ivy for too long. She noticed she tends to lean toward Ivy without realizing it when she stares.

Ivy isn't sure if she wants Sue where she is or further away. Closer. They seem interchangeable in her head sometimes.

"Nah."

She picks at her fingernails. She used to have perfectly manicured nails at all times. Now they've been bitten down almost to the quick. "So, I think we need to have regular movie nights," she says. "'Cause I always have fun with you."

If Sue did the blushing thing, this would be the perfect moment for it. She feels the emotion strongly enough.

"I always have fun with you too." Sue smiles a little. "I'd like to have regular movie nights. I'd like that a lot."

"On Friday nights, then?" Ivy smiles, more than a little bitter. "Since, y'know, neither one of us has much of a romantic life that would get in the way."

"Yeah. Sure. But if you need to call off for a hot date sometime, we can just reschedule for a Saturday or whatever."

Can it really be coincidence that her lack of a romantic life has been mentioned twice within the last two days?

Not that it bothers her... that she's never been in love and never... will be.

Not one bit.

Ivy snorts. "Yeah, like any guy in his right mind would want to date a pregnant 17-year-old."

She's not thinking about her nightmares. They weren't that bad. Really.

"You're not going to be pregnant forever." Sue states. "And there's more to you than the pregnant thing. Any guy would be lucky to date you."

And God, she hopes she doesn't sound jealous.

"Yeah, I'll have a freaking kid, if I keep the damn thing, and if I don't..." she sighs. "I don't know. Things are so screwed up right now. And maybe I'm too young to be jaded, but... I have only met one guy that I actually wanted to be with, as opposed to just a quick lay. And he turned out gay. So I'm not exactly in a rush to jump into the dating pool again."

"So don't be in a rush. It's not like any of those guys would deserve you anyway." Sue squeezes Ivy's arm gently. The best she can offer right now without feeling and fearing that she needs more.

"The only guy I ever met that I'd wanted to be with... well, wasn't gay, but I had... a... similarly bad experience."

Ivy looks a little curious. And she's nosy as hell and has never bothered to hide it.

"What happened?"
