The old man is careful not to shut the door behind him completely. He is very old, and has the unhealthy look of someone who hasn't seen the sun for a while. His clothes are barely more than rags and rope, and his long, grey hair hangs in greasy, matted strings. He smells, not to put too fine a point on it, as though he hasn't had a chance to ( Read more... )

"Just think it up." The answer to the man's second question is simple enough, though Aeryn has no idea what "ginseng tea" is. It doesn't sound particularly appealing.

She's sitting in a chair nearby, feet propped up on a small table. Her hair is tied back tightly (though perhaps not quite as tight as usual), and she's holding a cup of something that smells vaguely alcoholic. The Inn, she's discovered, is a nice opportunity to relax.

(OOC: Hi from another newb!)

Are you kidding? Ginseng tea is a high contender for the best thing ever, if you ask Iroh.

The bowl of steaming tea that appears in his hands gets an appreciative look. "How marvellously useful. Can I think up food as well?"

"As far as I can tell, you can think up almost anything." She's not the expert, of course, but she's sure she has it down.

A bowl of rice and roast duck appears in the hand that's not taken up by tea. It's a great improvement over the prison food he's been eating for the past few weeks, but after prison food, ANYTHING would be an improvement. Except komodo chicken.

"I seem to be in need of a table. May I borrow yours?"

She responds by picking up her feet, placing them back down on the floor.

"Thank you."

Iroh sits down opposite Aeryn and begins eating rather quickly.

"This is a most convenience place." he says, when he's full enough to savor his food. "And quite comfortable. Have you been here long?"

"Not long, no," Aeryn replies. "I only arrived here a few solar days ago."

She's inclined to agree that it's comfortable - much more comfortable than anything she's experienced in a long time.

"Solar days?" he repeats. "There are different kinds of days, on your side of the door?"

"No, just the one," she replies. "But they can only measure time in days on planets revolving around suns." Hence, solar.

"Suns." As in more than one. "Goodness."

There's a pause as Iroh processes the information.

"I was under the impression that the sun revolved around the planet."

Another pause.

"And that there was only one."

"Perhaps in your world. Of course, the number of suns depends on the planet." She supposes that it is possible that science is different in different worlds, though to her he sounds uneducated at best. She won't say that, of course.

Actually, he's had the finest education that the Fire Nation could offer, which means that he can tell you with considerable flair of the ascension of the Sun Spirit and the role it had in the creation of his race. And it'll be accurate, too. To his world, at least.

"This business with different worlds is quite fascinating." He beams cheerfully at the (rather attractive) young woman. "I never knew one could travel to other planets at all. Would you say this counts as one?"

He just thought it was an alternate spiritual realm.

Ah. Yet another being from a planet yet to make first contact with other planets. "No, I don't think it does."

Aeryn has spent her entire life in space, and knows a bit about space travel. If it had simply been a planet, she would have arrived in an entirely different manner.

His world's crazy enough without alien influences. Maybe in another season.

"You would know better than I."

"I'm sure I would." Actually, she isn't really sure what it would qualify as. Not that she'll admit it.

The old man beams at her.

"Travel between planets." What will they think of next? "How does one achieve that?"
