Weird ass day
So I'm getting ready to take a trash bag to the car so it'll be clean for my Thanksgiving ride to my folks'. Make 'em think I actually do clean it.
I had my last class this morning. Weird altercation between me and a classmate. I got there surprisingly earlier and declared martial law in the class, which only had three people at the time (the classmate in question being one of those folks). I ordered that there be nice things said about the story, and I figured they would get that I wasn't serious, as I spent a good part of the week apologizing for it. I even did a stupid little farewell speech, about how the class had seen a lot in the 12 minutes since I comandeered it. But when I sat down, the dude says, "We all have issues, you know."
"I didn't know I was airing any out."
"Well, it sounded like it."
I couldn't believe it. This dude actually thought I was committing mutiny. "I wasn't. Don't worry."
"And I don't like being threatened."
"I wasn't threatening." My mouth was fucking agape.
"Well, you're up there, saying we must say nice things about the story. I have the right to say whatever I want. Well, what if I don't?"
"Oh, well," I said.
Other folks who had come in later told him that this was a bit of my flamboyant creative side, and he said, "You didn't hear his speech earlier."
No more how many times I said I was being sarcastic, he was telling me about I shouldn't tell people what to think. What a goddamn moron.
I did apologize to him, although I said, again, that no threat/slam/anything was intended. Then he brings up his POW status, which I was unaware of, and how 'authoritarian' statements like mine made him feel encroached upon.
Well, that's okay and all, but... but...
It's a fucking Creative Writing workshop. How dense can you possibly be to think that one student, especially one as physically nonimposing as myself, would try anything? I wouldn't dare compare imprisonment to a 4000 level CRW course, so why would he?
