Happy thanksgiving all!
If you read my journal, then I hope you had a good holiday and got to spend it with the ones you love and appreciate.
me and mine went to a friend's house for the annual potluck. It was nice. I tried to make my grandmother's brocoli casserole though, and that did not turn out too well.
It's difficult when you ask for instructions over the phone and she says things like, "you want to add the cheese, but not so much that it's gummy." or "last year I had to put a lot of pepper in it. Just taste it, you'll be able to tell."
there was also some confusion about whether I should use mushroom soup or cream of mushroom soup - since both exist. Needless to say, I put too much pepper in, and probably not enough almonds, and I'm not really sure about the other ingredients, but it did not turn out too well, and I'm determined to try again to make it the right way!
but the pie was good as always! thus was my salvation at thanksgiving. :)
"mine" made the gravy, and it was quite delicious! mary made the turkey - her first ever - and it was also fabulous!
Most of us made something for the first time this year and it all turned out really well. It was a good holiday.
Then it was back to "mine" 's house for a little after-turkey induced nap.
All in all, a very relaxing day with good company and warm, welcoming feelings. Probably the best thing anyone can ask for at thanksgiving. :)
We watched a movie, Medea's family christmas or something like that. The movie opens with a family-style dinner, and everyone nitpicking and criticising everyone else. and i looked at the tv and went, "see this? this is why I don't go home for holidays! This right here!"
it was so remenicent of most of the family dinners I remember having. It was nice not to have that this year - or at least only have it on tv and not in my life. :)
