she wrote me back basically ignoring the massive criticism and just saying i'm a good writer and she's proud of me.....
i don't get her.
this is what i wrote: i'm not overly religous - never have been. I also don't believe that women should be in the house, that men shouldn't cook, or that: only women can wear jewelery that a woman should look like a lady - as opposed to a tomboy, or a man tham a man should look like a gentleman - as opposed to a girly-girl, or a drag queen. I never liked the idea of being forced to pray in school - and in most of my home-rooms, it was required that we pray. it was also required that we stand for the pledge and put our hands over our hearts - these things shouldn't be requirements. they should be voluntary and willful - when it becomes forced, people loose love for that which it represents. I believe that christians have done imense harm in this world that they like to ignore. i believe that many non-christians have done imense good and that no religion is better or worse than any other. i believe that laws being based on the bible - or more aptly someone elses interpretation of a PART of the bible, are trying to undermine my life and well-being by declairing me and those like me sinners and not worthy of equal treatment. I believe that laws based like that on the bible are unjust and should not be made. i believe that anyone who upholds the bible too highly is dangerous. i believe anyone who does not know, or accept the history of how that book came to be and evoloved over the last 1000 years is willfully ignorant and is also the type of person to condem me, spew hate at me, and try do quite negative and violent things to me.
i believe that if the bible-belt expands beyond the south, i will move to another country because I would not feel welcome in this country.
i believe that faith begins at home and is carried in your heart. i also believe that times change, new things happen, and old biases are uncovered and then asked to be changed. i believe that when people resist dismissing these biases, they are repeating history. i believe that the bible has been used through out history to justify disgraceful things in this country and i believe that it is still happening. i do not believe that the bible is the basis for human morality and i do believe that is has become a haven of bigotry.
I am not interested in the bible, or the people who proclaim to read it w/o common sense.
i don't get her.
