weekend in review.

nothing overly interesting to write about.
I can register for my first grad class starting today, but I need to have the money handy b/f I can get everything done. I have to call the g'ma about that since she's the money queen right now.

I'm hoping to start with stats on thursday. and I really want this class b/c the professor's sylibus looks much more practical than the other ones. He also won the 2007 teacher award for the department, so I'm thinking he might be fun to learn math from...$2560 + supplies later, we'll see what happens. :)

other than that, went to see indiana jones w/ a friend of mine, and was rather depressed about it actually.

Aside from the script that just seemed forced at times, and the actress playing the russian woman's inability to maintain a consistent accent, there were also the blatant visual references to the previous three jones movies, and
ALIENS. Personally, I think you need to keep your sci-fi out of my indie movies. Not that i don't like sci-fi, but really, was it necessary to call up the roswell, area-51 rumors, and build a plot around tracking down the inter-stellar beings? while also doing a movie set in the late 50's about an archeologist/teacher who always ends up battling someone whose using the artifacts for bad things?
no, I don't think so.
there were some good points, I admit, and the movie references didn't all seem forced (see snakes, and the love interest from arc of the covenant), though there were some bits that reminded me way too much of "The Mummy" for my personal belief points (there's this scene with large ants that swarm and eat two people alive)..
and I guess that's really another one of my problems w/ the movie. The other indie movies seemed believable. yeah, the holy grail might exist, yeah, in a jungle where the indigenous tribes have rituals quite outside my frame of reference, I can see them possibly ripping a beating heart out of a body....(ok, I can suspend disbelief if the set up is real enough)....but aliens? and the shout out to the atomic bomb? or the "witch hunt" of the 50's for communists in america that's quite foreshaddowing of our current "witch hunt" for muslim jiihaad in america?
it all just seemed contrived.
then again, i haven't seen the other indie movies in a while, maybe they weren't as good as I remember them. maybe all the indie movies were this hokey. who knows.

spent saturday walking through dupont circle after work trying to give away free food. And NO ONE would take it. Not even the homeless people!!! It's amazing how hard it is to get people to eat donuts and pizza at 11pm on a Saturday night.

Sunday was mostly lounging. I went out to visit w/ my girl for a bit. and stayed up a little too late. and woke up this morning w/ a headache, possibly b/c I drank a monsterously huge pina colada. :) my girl also blames me for her sudden interest in strawberry daquiri's - b/c she's had like three now over the last two weeks, and says they're too girly for her to be drinking...
I told her to get over herself. :)
