[For Silence]

Robin had never seemed to keep a partner for long within the Island Police, his first partner had found him odd, the next from a future he found hard to imagine and his last apparently not human until they had arrived here and then he'd vanished off into the jungle long before actually vanishing ( Read more... )

Silence had joined the police force out of sheer boredom, and the complete and total lack of any pursuits worthy of a knight-errant. He has long been bored even of lancing at dinosaurs. "Of course it is," he says dryly. "How ofen is it otherwise?"

Once yearly - and there was that time when it rained for a week. Both points Silence knows well enough so Robin does not say it. "I believe there are people who wouldn't believe you could miss rain," he said, "how wrong they are." Oh it rains sometimes, if rarely but it's not the same - mostly it's still warm while it does it.

Silence glances up at the sky, shielding his eyes with his hand. "The rain is a part of England; it is hard not to miss them both together. Though I like the sun well enough, but for the heat."

"The heat would be more tolerable if it were not never ending," Robin observed. "I never though I would be hoping for more winter but a month does not seem enough."

"No," Silence agrees, but his face falls; the last winter is still too near, as is the pain of its fading. But Robin knows all of that without Silence having to detail it. "Tell me, is there often anything of note on these patrols?"

"No," said Robin honestly, "Occasionally new arrivals, sometimes pointing out someone is about to find themselves in dinosaur territory. Once I broke up a fight," he sounds slightly wistful about it.

Silence' sigh is a bit wistful as well. "Ah well," he says. "It is doing some good, at least."

"There have been other incidents," Robin encourages - he read about them on the odd occasion he helped Marian with filing, not that he would mention such. "Few and far between but they would have been worse with no police available."

"Of that I am certain," Silence agrees. "It still seems strange at times how peaceful this land can be."

"Unlike anywhere else I have heard of," Robin said. "It doesn't seem real at times, that a place could be so untouched by conflict." That in itself was a sad commentary really.

Silence is quiet a moment, his face turned up to watch the shadow of a tropical bird winging off through the trees. "Mayhap it is no real place," he offers, "but only the dream of some eldtrich creature."

"If there is an eldtrich creature involved it could at least show it's face," Robin said a touch darkly. They could do with a decent target.

Silence laughs agreement. "That is true enough. It may do no good to know, but my lance would not object to a target."
