That blue chair swiveled when I placed my back on its rest
An ancient blank screen stared back at me, as I lurched forward in a hunch
Trying to position my feet on the checkered orange and grayish brown stool,
I didn't need emails then, I didn't need words then, I got to be stiff as a rail,
I cared about nothing, it was hard to see I noticed at all, and then I found a new chair,
Its backrest is golden brown, and the cushion is a tacky light blue hue,
My desk is made of the same material, and the computer on top is brand new,
I wish I could trade in for those dreams I left behind,
I've come to collect my memories, but this time I'm not fine
I won't forget those hands that held me up, held me high, hold me here,
I won't forget the people that are sharing my aspirations as I touch this keyboard,
This notice is for you,
This notice is left in your names,
Printed on the walls of my bedroom,
Scratched into the sideboards in your schools,
Etched with my stinging nails on bathroom stalls,
Waiting for you
Calling you
I take this burden for us all,
You took my burden first.
