Personally, I think what happened at BR will ultimately be a good thing for the community.
The hotel owners at Ocean City lost several hundred thousand dollars of business on an off-peak weekend after a bad summer. Know where that money is going? Up Route 95 to NYC for TESFest, and the New Yorkers are more than happy to pocket the change.
Do you think the OC merchants are going to be happy about this?
Do you think they're going to do something about this?
Do you think fetish organizations are going to check the local liquor laws before they book a hotel in the future? Where are they going to book their events?
It will take a few years, but I'm willing to bet the Ocean County Liquor laws (and elsewhere) will be quietly revised in the near future.
Once a community becomes a viable economic force it's nearly impossible to stop them. It happened with blacks, it happened with gays, it will happen with kinks.
