Oh, I'm sure there will be commentaries on the DVD/Blu-ray. I hope they have a cast commentary, too, because I'd love to hear what Sam, Cait and Tobias have to say.
I don't always listen to commentaries on DVD, but I do more often than not. The best I've ever heard were on the LOTR DVDs. Everybody and his brother did commentaries: Peter Jackson, the cast, the production staff and the art department. They are wonderfully entertaining and informative.
Gah! I still haven't watched Outlander while listening to Ron's commentary, a link for which you posted. I got derailed tonight because he had a bad storm and I had to shut down for two hours. Then I decided to watch Sam's 2011 movie First Light that I got from Amazon UK. And guess who else is in it as his commanding officer? Gary Lewis. I didn't think Sam had worked before with anyone in the Outlander cast.
The movie is excellent, based on the true story of the youngest British Spitfire pilot in World War II. Sam looks gorgeous and runs the gamut of emotions from anger to joyousness and romance to weeping. Maybe now that he's destined to become such a huge star in the US, the movie will be released here. That's what happened with Robert Pattinson's (Twilight) British films and Alexander Skarsgard's (True Blood) Swedish films.
Definitely! Ya know, something occurred to me today. I wonder what kind of contracts the main cast have. Are they signed for six or seven seasons like shows in the US? Do they have option clauses in their contracts? I read somewhere - unrelated to Outlander - that it is illegal in the UK to sign actors for more than a year at a time. Maybe that applies only to films made in the UK. Outlander has a UK cast and is filmed in Scotland, but it's being made by Sony, an American company. If they lose Sam, that's the end of the series as far as I'm concerned.
Oh I don't want to know. I doubt they'd lose the actors at this point. Even if they can't sign them up over a year they probably already told them they will want them. Plus this show is shooting them all to stardom... and they seem so devoted... I think we are okay.
I consulted a friend who's an entertainment attorney in England (and in Germany, she's bi-lingual) and she said the reason for the one-year limit is to give actors the ability to renegotiate terms. With this show shooting them all to stardom, as you said, you can be sure their agents are going to be negotiating for bigger salaries for season two. As well, they should because they deserve it, IMO.

I never really listened to them but while Ron was working on Battlestar Galactica, I believe he did commentary about the episodes and a blog.
This isn't to say he'll do this for Outlander but it is possible he'll be dropping goodies for us for the episodes.
It also makes sense if he's planning commentary for the DVD/Blu Rays. So we'll see.

I think Ron is going to live up to what the BSG fans were accustom too. That is just great to know.

Sam does take priority there.
I haven't watched much of his but someday I'm going to go nuts. Right now I just want some more Jamie.
