an experiment - can we place the entire enterprise of modernity sous rature? there is a politics of representation to be dealt with here - the lacunae of our age - and manufactured under no uncertain terms of the hegemon. the manner in which those "truths" are articulated and constructed are just that - the uniterable sanctions of the oppressor. empire lives and confounds us, and late capitalism unwinds upon the postcolonial. everything becomes reduced - human life included - to the will of the sovereign, the conqueror of all, the hegemon with fire. the biopolitical evaporates into the vicissitude of the hegemonic, anti-hegemonic - it becomes simulacra, entertaining structures of affect and the polemical. homo sacer is our state - and yet we can not speak of specific essentialisms without assuming the discourse of our totalitarian post-regimes. the discourse is nonetheless a technology, a technology to control and to subvert and to smother. governmentality traps us in its tentacles, suffocating us - should we never relinquish? this panoptic sphere in which we are all punished and disciplined by an anomie. anomic space filters out the "real", it is simulation. what is to be said of race, sex, gender, class, (dis)ability, the seemingly invariant, steadfast commandeers of the postmodern - the fracturing and fragmentation that persist to haunt (dis)locations. a spectre is haunting postmodern academia. of course, the spectre is inscribed within the discipline. a flourish, exeunt
