Who: Az and Cain
When: February 7th, 8:00 am
Where: Shooting Range
What: Accuracy and a Clear Mind
Karma’s head bumped her palm when she lowered it as she walked, already the puppy had grown a great deal in just over a month. Whenever Az needed a simple reassurance, nothing great enough to search out Jeb or her sister, or Eliza, she was able to turn her palm towards the ground and feel Karma’s nose come up to meet her skin. A little reminder of where and when she was. After all, the big black pup had never made a cameo appearance in her dreams. In her nightmares.
She had woken twice the night before, Jeb’s arms around her and his voice whispering in her ear, calming her down. Difficult as it was, she had relinquished herself back to sleep, if only because she knew he would keep from sleep with her. It would not have been the first time. And he deserved a night’s peace, or as much of it as she could deliver.
Even speaking to the Viewers, as reluctant as she had been, had done little to help. When Bahst had reached toward her hand to try to glimpse one of her dreams, after that worst one after she had drained herself days before, the Princess had pulled away. Refused to allow the Viewer into that dream, there were things in her head that none should have to carry. Let alone a sensitive psychic.
The pup beside her pressed her cold nose against Az’s palm once more, reminding her that they were on their way to the shooting range. That in her other hand, she held her bow, and slung across her back was a tooled leather quiver full of light weight arrows. The range itself on the Palace Grounds was nearly always used for firearm practice, but she had been told that there were a few dummies that were used for archery. And there was no need to worry about Karma, as the trainers in the Royal Kennel had covered the small section of her training dealing with becoming accustomed to the sounds of gunshots.
When Eliza had been nearly grabbed, the pup had not faltered, but ran beside her mistress. Despite the gunshot.
Two of her guards had been sent ahead to be sure that the range was either empty or close to it, because as stifling as even Az felt when entirely surrounded by the increased security, they were thorough in protecting her. Not as if she could protest, really, seeing as they were put in place to keep her safe. Even if she had, experience told her that she would make no headway against the Captain of the Guard. He could be as stubborn as any Gale, as much as he sometimes grumbled about headstrong Royals.
T and Sergei flanked her, and as soon as one of the guards sent ahead had come back with word that only Captain Cain was shooting at the moment, they headed inside. The guards set themselves up in some secure pattern, at several stations, although their charge took little notice. She knew they knew what they were doing, and trusted them implicitly to do their jobs.
Az herself stopped just inside the area where she found Cain, gun already in hand, not willing to even attempt to startle him. Karma parking herself at her heel, tongue lolling.
