At her superior officer's question, Marion was quick to shake her head. "No sir." Not that the guard knew of for sure, but she had strong beliefs that Azkadellia had not been touched in that manner. "I asked the Duchess after she mentioned that she had been held with the Princess for the first several hours of captivity. The two women had been informed that Azkadellia was to...have been given to the General's top lieutenants."

The copper-skinned woman was not sure how much Captain Cain knew about the supposed spy from Ix in the Longcoat ranks. "Azkadellia was able to use her magic to subdue one of the men, but apparently her hold on her magic was shaky. Likely due to her fear of the General himself. The Duchess shot the other, but as he (as she claims) is a spy for Ix, did not kill him. She was removed the room nearly instantly. At that time the Princess had only minor bruising around her neck. It's possible that the rest came from the same man, as the Duchess did compromise his cover among the Longcoats. Likely he felt that he needed to prove himself to the lower ranked men."

Pausing, Marion was torn for a moment over her loyalties. She knew that Johnson had overstepped his authority in going into the room with the eldest Gale daughter after her rescue, but she also knew that someone had needed to take care of the woman. "For the most part the Princess has shut down, she spoke only to refuse a Healer and to ask for her friend...Gabriel Grey." The battered woman seemed to be seeking a support system, as hers had been shredded by the attack and kidnapping. "Johnson cleaned her up and helped her change into another dress, and he did mention sir that while the bruising on her body was varied and covered most of her, there was none that indicated that kind of intimate attack."

The guard was still unsure of what she thought about the younger Cain and his role in the recent events. She was usually an extremely good judge of character, and had not pinned him as a man willing to strike a defenseless woman. But the news had traveled fast through the guard that he had been seen striking the Princess at least once before Grey intervened.

That Azkadellia let Johnson tend to her was actually very good news. Especially if she spoke showing awareness of her surroundings. She wasn't catatonic, and she was allowing a male to touch her.

But Gray? Now that really stuck to the gut.

"Thanks, Marion. Can you see if you can get the Queen to visit her? Go through whatever channels you need to. Hell, tell her I sent you. Sometimes a girl... a woman.... just needs her mother."

He was still a bit shocked by the lack of presence of the Queen and Consort thus far. Unless they were playing croquet with that damn ball. He'd like to use it for target practice.

Cain had to speak with the Queen anyway. He had failed the family miserably. He had failed everyone. Ten guards dead, DG like this, Az broken... He couldn't continue his commission.

Handing over the globe to his wife and telling her what had happened, no matter how gently he tried to break the news, it had been one of the most difficult things he had had ever had to do. The love of his life had been completely distraught over the information, nearly inconsolable. He had waited until she had placed the dull grey ball into a black metallic box, and then finally fallen asleep before he left the room to go check on his youngest daughter.

He would be sure to see Azkadellia after she had gotten (hopefully) some rest. Dread tinged his thoughts of seeing her, as well as fear. She had seemed a step shy of catatonia when they had seperated, seeming to retreat into herself as a way to protect herself. It was cruel that Fate would give them all a taste of happiness before ripping it from their grasp once more. The suns came out from behind the moons and everything was bright and hopeful, yet the darkness clawed at the edges of their lives, this time taking a swipe at his daughters and leaving them bloody and broken in the wake of evil.

He was tired. The man had had to be the voice of reason amongst angry men, a cold killer once more, someone to comfort his love, wiping away her tears. A break from tightly controlled actions, emtions and thoughts. He just wanted to be a father and a husband, neither role ones he had been able to fill for too long. The last month he had just been trying to reaquaint himself with his wife. Had not even spent more than passing time with either of his daughters, and regret weighed heavily on him now. What would he have done if either of them had died and he had not done more than see them passingly?

Ahamo had not missed the way Cain and his son had looked at his daughters the night of the ball, before everything had gone to hell. Nor the way his daughters had looked at the two men. As awkward as the situation was when it came to how exactly he felt about his daughters being involved with a father and son, he wished now he had had more time beforehand to figure out what he truly thought of them all as couples. Instead, the situation had become even more complicated than it had been.

The Consort stepped into the room where he had been told his daughter and Cain were, catching the last part of the conversation flying about. With a sigh tinging his voice, he spoke up. "That won't be possible Captain Cain. Lavender is... well, this is reminding her of the last time we nearly lost our daughters." Only this time her magic would not have been remotely strong enough to help either one if the worst had happened and one or both of them had died. Hopefully they would not lose their daughters in any capacity from this incident. They all had been seperated for fifteen years...annuals, and it had nearly killed both he and Lavender.

Wyatt Cain wasn't in a polite or political mood. He was angry, heartbroken, guilt ridden and to many other things to name at the moment. Hell, he'd already committed treason.

"She's the Queen. But right now she has both her daughters alive and here. They need her more than she needs to hide from the memories." Anger, like acid, spilled from his own wound. "I spent eight annuals in a tin prison watching my family beaten. Watching my wife raped by four men who enjoyed it. Including that bastard you kept me from killing."

He took a deep breath, trying to expel the venom as his thumb stroked the back of DG's hand as he held it.

"But I can be here for DG. I couldn't be there for Adora, but I can be whatever DG needs. And if you think for one moment that sitting here, looking at her laying here like this, doesn't rip me apart, doesn't want to make me smash anything in reach..."

Cain's eyes weren't blue but steel when he looked at the Consort. "The queen sacrificed her family for the good of the O.Z. Now let the mother sacrifice a bit of her peace of mind for her family."

And Cain knew he had to follow his own advice.

"Can someone stay here with her? I need to go face my own son."

"You forget your place Captain Cain." Ahamo had had enough of it. He had never been fully comfortable in the role of Prince Consort, it was far more political than he had ever wanted, and he had never liked the class barriers that came with the title. "You go too far." He respected what he had seen of the other man for the most part, but this insubordination needed to be stopped then and there.

The feel of the Seeker mantle seemed to settle around his shoulders, as his fists clenched for a moment. He was trying to be understanding, but the blonde was pushing his luck. "You went through horrors I would never wish on another living being, let alone someone fighting for what was right." His stare was level, his tone of voice broke nothing but utter seriousness. "But you forget that she is the Queen of the Outer Zone. It is not for you to decide how she handles her own grief and pain, it is solely for her."

"I was understanding about the stunt you pulled earlier, I know what it feels like to be able to do nothing for the woman you love." He would have preferred to speak to the man as one former commoner to another, after all he was uniquely able to understand some of the difficulties that lay ahead for a commoner in love with a Crown Princess. It was an entirely different ballgame than loving a woman of the same rank he imagined, with more hidden pitfalls when it came to dealing with how her time was spent. "I lost the three I love once before, and I nearly lost two of them again."

"But if you think I will stand for you maligning my wife, your Queen, you best be prepared to leave this Palace for good. And when DG awakes I will have to tell her that the man she loves was banished for treason because he could not control what spewed from his mouth."

At Cain's statement Ahamo nodded stiffly once, "You do that. I will be here."
