He returned to consciousness slowly, at first aware of the dull pain in his jaw as it continued to increase until he wanted to reach one hand up to rub it, but found that he couldn't move his hand.

Realization hit his slightly confused mind, and a small hint of fear found its way to the boy's eyes. The Longcoats - and his father? - must have captured him. This did not promise to be good.
