Keeping DG safe

Who: Cain, Az, Glitch, Scraps

Where: All over - Then Library

When: January 15 - eventually 11 am meeting

What: Cain has a plan

Cain was used to rising early.  However, this morning it seemed like he’d barely slept.

Likely because he hadn’t.  Not after DG had pulled her disappearing act right from his arms.  How was he supposed to protect her from that?  He’d have to speak to Az and Tutor later to see if they could teach DG some sort of control.  Or maybe even shield her room against teleporting in or out… or something.  Anything.

He pressed a kiss to DG’s temple as he carefully disentangled himself from both her and the sheets and headed out.

His legs were burning and he was feeling much more alert after the five mile run he led the first guard shift on.  He’d been mentally working on the problem throughout the run, but he had to be much more aware as the training course was coming up, rearranged to each step wouldn’t be routine.

By the time he hit the showers his heart was pumping hard and there was a good burn to his muscles.  The morning routine was excellent for waking up.  Glitch had said the brain released endorphins during strenuous exercise creating a kind of natural high.  His friend  had then asked if they’d met. Again.

He gave Dave the glare-of-death for inappropriate comments in the men’s shower, which seemed to be a daily occurrence. Dave offered to use the women’s shower instead.  Greg snapped his lifemate with the tail end of his towel.   This caused Cain to stop contemplating the problem with DG long enough to mentally remind himself how calculating, efficient and ruthless Dave was. How he was an excellent strategist…and that was why he’d made the man his second. He was not going to have someone dig a moat around the castle just so he could dump Dave Patterson into it…

He was on the way to his office when it came to him.  A solution.  If it could be made to work.  He knew little about magic, so he’d have to talk to Az, whom he’d planned to meet with anyway.  He might also need Glitch on this, maybe his new ‘assistant, as she seemed to be able to remind Glitch what they were doing and get his brain to work a bit more, before her’s went wandering.

He called up to Glitch’s lab.  He hoped one of the two up there remembered what the ringing sound was.  It wasn’t a fair assessment, but it was amusing to picture.

“How am I supposed to know.  It’s not me calling.” A woman’s voice, Scraps, was heard before her greeting. “Um… hello?”

“Scraps, this is Cain.  Can you and Glitch meet me at eleven?” He smiled into the receiver.

“Oh! The man of tin.  Glitch, it’s the man… fine, no need to be rude about it, grumpy puss.” Scrap’s voice was clear. “He said he knows who you are because he can hear my end of the conversation.  That’s eavesdropping.”

Cain shook his head. “Just write down a note that I want to meet you both in the library at eleven this morning.”

“Mmmmhmmm.  Wrote it down.” Scraps answered.

“Now carefully pin that to Glitch’s coat, so neither of you will forget.” Cain tried not to laugh.

“You have no faith in us.” He could hear the pout over the phone.

“I have every faith in you.” He insisted.  Every faith that one or both of them would forget. “That’s why I want to meet you both with Azkediellia.  I’m trusting you to help me keep Princess DG safe.”

“Really!?!” Scraps squealed and Cain had to hold the earpiece away from his ear.  “We’ll be there.  Don’t worry.”

He was starting to.

Next he called up to the Guard room hoping to catch Johnson before he left the morning briefing  so he could ask Az to attend the meeting.

01/15, cain, az, glitch, scraps
