A sad day

Maureen died last night. It had been a long time coming and hard on her family. She had cancer, I'm not sure what kind. She lived a lot longer than the doctors expected. They expected her to die last year, but she made a miraculous recovery for a couple of months. She has been in hospice for the last month, and last week, slipped into a coma.

Maureen was a wonderful lady, a member of my extended family bush. She was an educator and a great contributer to the deaf community around Washington D.C. She is deaf, as is her husband, but their children are hearing. They were frequently down visiting their southern family and my children and hers, being the same age, often got thrown together.

Even though her family knew this was coming, I know her husband and children are in shock right now. Any thoughts and well wishes in their direction are appreciated.

The countdown is also on for my nephew to return to California. He seems better with the idea until he gets faced with the reality of having to go back, then he is not too happy. This is his last day of school, so we have to start packing his stuff soon to ship back to my sister. It has been a fast year and a half. I wish he could have stayed longer.
