I know, I know - at the rate I'm going I'll probably finish talking about my trip in December, lol. It's nice to keep going back and looking at pictures, though! Man, I miss being on holiday.
So! We headed to Akihabara mainly because the area is so famous. On the day itself I remember I had a pretty bad stomachache, so we went back to bed after breakfast and only headed out at four in the afternoon. We didn't have much time at Akihabara, as a result.
If I had to sum up the area in a phrase it would probably be "maid cafes".
I am not even kidding. Here is a building filled with just maid cafes.
Naturally I was a creeper and took a couple of pictures of the girls in their uniforms giving out flyers in the street.
How is that not the cutest bag ever? I want her bag.
They also have entire buildings devoted to just figurines and collectibles, etc.
Also anime/manga characters everywhere.
Surprisingly enough, there were also a few really cosy looking places in some of the back alleys. And even a mini shrine:
For dinner that night we decided to treat ourselves and had REALLY delicious shabu shabu. It was also really expensive ;_; and really not all that filling.
OM NOMZ.
More anime characters. Only in Japan, you guys.
An actual Gundam themed cafe! They also had an AKB48 cafe next door. I don't get it, guys. To think I thought 13 people in a group was bad enough.
No photography allowed, but I managed to snap one before they could chase us off.
This, of course, does not include pictures of five story high sex shops where they sell pretty much everything, including models of vaginas. Apparently they make these in different shapes, because we saw a poster on that. Don't ask me how that works. We went into one of those and it was both fascinating and a little horrifying. Also mostly patronized by men, for some reason.
It was a really interesting day, though! We didn't end up in any maid cafes, because we'd heard the things there are overpriced, but it would have been cool to have gone.
I will definitely try to post more soon! I'm not even halfway done ;_;
