Near the end of the first day, the silence is broken by someone rattling the front door. When this is ineffective, the rattling becomes rather frantic knocking.
Castiel's initial reaction is to get away from the door, thinking the noise to be one of the shadowy figures outside, finally bored of dwelling in his peripheral vision and deciding they'd like to come in. He doesn't know what he'll do, if that happens.
The knocking continues though, and he peers out the window that flanks the door. He sees nothing.
He will not become any more prepared to face whatever is outside by putting off confrontation. He opens the door, steeling himself.
