Welcome to our little OOCT party! Let's have a little get-to-know-you post.

Hi! I'm Sage. china_shop is trapped under something heavy (her WIP!!), so I'm hosting this party along with this group of lovely DS fen. Please say hi to eledhwenlin, lamentables, and monroe_nell! :D

Back in December 2005 the fabulous ds_recs community hosted a fandom social that many of us remember fondly, so I'm ( Read more... )

Now let's see if lj allows me to post this baby buzzylittleb June 13 2008, 21:22:44 UTC
Feel free to comment and rec people/communities/fics to those who introduce themselves.
I also co-mod in a very laid back manner; rpf_canada (which needs more rpf, please consider cross-posting your fic/ squee/ anything of the above) and foom_mmms (an old school community for fans of old school Marvel comics - trying to accentuate the positive, the lovable, and trying to avoid fanboy bitching - and staying pre-1987. I share with papajoemambo, my favourite Canuck and we could both do with posting some stuff and kicking it back into life)

I also use my deli.cio.us as a fangirl information/research finding thing. Anything useful is in there and some stuff that isn't useful to anyone but me. Mostly, though, useful if you need to talk about Inuit cooking, mountie dress, random rpf articles, meta...

I really should have pimped that in the above post, since it is one of those things I am very proud of. And I find it incredibly useful. It started out as an extension to my ds_recs post on research is fun (honest)

1. What’s your favorite song/group/type of music?
My musical preferences baffle a great many people (including shadowkitty who has seen my collection in the flesh). Currently, I am big on Leonard Cohen (who cheers me up), Muse, the German band Wir Sind Heldern, the expected Hugh Dillon/Headstones stuff, Hawkwind (a good way to confuse record-shop-owners as 1. not male and 2. not over forty), I probably range on eclectic more than anything.

2. If you could bring three fics with you to a desert island, and get to read only those for three what would they be? (If you want to, discuss why.)
This is an evil question. Indecisive should be my middle name, but I'm not sure. I do, however, really like bad puns. I haven't read a lot lately, period. But, uh, The Sweet Hereafter by china_shop, Scrabble by cesperanza and then either Three Lone Lore Creatures by Matthew Time or verushka70's Post Lunch Lieutenant series.

If could cheat, I would add any kink by Hth, Rushlight's Fraser in Chains, uh - Beautiful Oblivionthe big K/T thing whose name I can't remember *fails* - and some Mountie Slayer (because I am easy for a) kink and b) massive AUs).

3. The story I reread whenever I’m feeling blue (or just because I like it that much!) is:

Not doing a lot of reading lately and most of them are up there; except for anything by aukestrel and/or kelliem.

Could I add a new question? What fic inspires me?/you?

Teeth of the Hydra by resonant8 is my model of how to write really long fic with plot and slash and flashbacks. Three of my most favouritest things. Basically, if I end up on scale with her, bamfchickie or Schisms by rushlight (again) I will die a happy woman.

bethos should be rushlight75, who wrote Schisms. That's what I get for not checking

4. I have dreams of this plotbunny getting written:

Uh, the one I have at the moment? I don't have any other plot bunny urges except a couple of unexpanded concepts that I just couldn't work out the plot on. I wanted an AU treatment of the history of comics in a Ray/Ray whodunnit (it would be called funny papers and went with a manip I made) or a SGA/M*A*S*H fusion based on fifties science (and what my brother calls ray-gun-gothic, we sort of had this one semi-worked out at that point) leaning more towards the book version of M*A*S*H and it's strange disjointed digressions on the history of medicine.

5. My favorite line of a song/book/movie/fanfic/quotation:
Uh. Currently, Sentenced to Death by the Blues (from Take This Waltz - Leonard Cohen) which is a chapter title in the big project.

6. If I could live anywhere in the world, and be doing anything I wanted, and living with whomever I pleased, I would be:
Living in Cyprus (the one place I understand the English migratory urge) in a lovely house as a paid writer/novelist. Or actually learn something about archaeology and do things with that. In this reality, I would be able to handwave speaking Greek. (The only thing I can do is talk to 5th century (BC) atticans about their oxen).

7. My junk food of choice is:
Yoghurt-filled ritter squares.

8. I have a secret. *leans in close* I--___. (In other words, something you'd just like to say.)
I don't know, there really isn't anything exciting in my life right now. I can sing the Toothbrush song, cross-stitch things, and put up with really annoying co-workers.

9. I'm really proud of this story/manip/vid/community that I created/run: (and give us a link!)
Uh, I am really proud of what I am currently working on. I gave out a chapter over at malnpudl's hayfever hop: link

Otherwise, my due South wing!fic, This Land Was Made for You and Me: livejournal and pretty pdf copy

I am also very very proud of my first big fannish project. Fraser/Kowalski casefic R/NC-17 70000 words or so (really!) and that is really underselling things. It is normally (still by a month or two) exclusive to the Red Ships Green Ships e-zine #2 but the story is currently down (I wrote a new, better ending...) People who ask nicely might be able to read it. There is an post on my lj about its original release and some really interesting (but incredibly spoilerific) comments.
