Questionnaire #5 - Secrets
Are you good at keeping secrets about yourself?

Yes, from everyone except my wife, my mother and my grandmother.

What is your best kept secret?

I don't need to keep it anymore. When we first married, Emma didn't want children and also didn't want to upset my grandmother, who kept saying we would soon have a daughter, so we kept quiet about our agreement not to have children. I only told my mother. Around last Christmas, Emma changed her mind and decided we should have a child. By February she was pregnant. Mamó was overjoyed.

What is your worst kept secret?

My jealousy of Emma's business partner, Richard Sheridan, who pursued her before she fell in love with me.

Are you good at keeping secrets about others?

Yes, I try never to betray a confidence. Trust is too precious a thing to be lightly cast aside.

What secret about someone else have you kept and wish you hadn't?

I sometimes wonder if I am right to help Emma to conceal her occasional depression from others who care about her, but I honour her wishes.

What secret about someone else have you not kept and wish you had?

I can't think of one.

Questionnaire #6 - Sex
Are you a virgin?

No, but I was on my wedding day. We both lost our virginity together in the Groom's Cottage that night.

Do you mate for life? Oh yes!

Who was your first lover? (or, if you are a virgin -- Who would you like your first lover to be?)

My wife, Emma. She will also be my last.

Who is your current lover?

Emma, irresistable even in pregnancy.

What is your favourite sexual position?

It's difficult to say. I like several. I do like plenty of body contact and also to look into my wife's eyes. She has amazing eyes.

What are your kinks?

I'm not sure I have any. I do like it when Emma strokes the back of my neck. Does that count?

Questionnaire #7 - Best and Worst
What's the worst thing that's ever happened to you?

Thinking Emma had been murdered. Thankfully, she was unharmed.

What's the best thing that's ever happened to you?

Finding out that Emma was pregnant.

Who is your worst enemy?

Philip Morton. He wanted to kill Emma, stabbed me and later escaped from prison and threatened us again.

Who is your best friend?

Sean Mellors, the gardener at Whiteturrets. We're like brothers.

Tell us about your worst kiss.

It was with my first girlfriend, Ginny. There I was, kissing her, and I realised that I didn't love her and probably never would. We kept the relationship going for a while, but then she got angry when I stayed with a sick horse and I ended it.

Tell us about your best kiss.

How can I choose one amongst the many with Emma? Maybe my most memorable one is our first. At the time, I was working for her, I was her friend and it was assumed by most people, including him, that she would eventually marry Richard Sheridan.

That night, we were in a stable with a mare called Sweet Companion, who was about to have a foal. Emma was there to help keep Sweet calm, and while we waited for things to get underway, we talked a lot and we laughed a lot and, when Sweet got anxious, we sang "Enniskillen Dragoons" together. When the foal was born, we were so excited, we hugged, then Emma kissed me. I realised as I responded that I had been waiting for that kiss for a long time. I was devastated, because I had found out I loved her just as we kissed and I felt she would avoid me in future, because Emma was terrified of commitment and cut out of her life anyone for whom she might feel too much.

I apologised and pretended I had been the one doing the kissing. We agreed it was the excitement of the foal and just a kiss between friends. That way, I kept her friendship. It was a while after that before I tried to kiss her again.

Questionnaire #8 - Mornings
What time do you wake/get up?

Usually, about 4 am, but since Emma got pregnant I have delegated work at the stableyard and now I tend to lie in bed, holding my wife until she is ready to get up at 6 or 7.

What's the first thing you do upon waking?

Kiss Emma, or watch her sleeping. If she's awake and feeling good, I might try my luck.

Are you a morning person?

Yes, I love the freshness of the air before dawn.

What is your typical morning like?

Wake, check Emma's feeling well, maybe a little snuggle before breakfast, then we wash, dress and go to have a nice breakfast of bacon and eggs, after that, outside to enjoy the day.

Do you drink coffee?

Yes, or fruit juice, or tea.

Do you need coffee?

No. Mam says I was born with too much energy.

Questionnaire #9 - Are you?
Are you...

Smart? I am a typical Kerryman, quick-witted, eloquent, witty and intelligent. When a Kerryman speaks, keep a tight hold on your wallet, and your heart.

Arrogant? I'm afraid I can be. When a man annoys me, I can't help but be arrogant, patronising and dismissive.

Good-looking? That's not for me to say. My wife thinks so, and that's all I care about.

Sexy? Considering how good my love-life is, I think I must be. Emma and I can be talking about feed sheets and get hot under the collar. We can't be trusted alone in a hayloft!

Capable? Yes, I like to think so. When you grow up on a farm, you get to be good at a lot of things.

Dangerous? Only when provoked, and I would never harm a woman or a child.

Questionnaire #10 -- Marks
Do you have any scars?

Yes, where Philip Morton stabbed me. It was a pretty nasty abdominal wound, and the scar upsets Emma because she thinks it's her fault (she was hiding from him and I came upon him and was stabbed).

Do you have any piercings?

No. Hate the idea.

Do you have any tattoos?

No, hate those too, and my mother would kill me.

Do you have any other markings?

a mole on my back.

Do you wear any jewellery?

My wedding ring, sometimes a rosary and a watch my father gave me.

Have you ever broken any bones?

Yes, a couple of ribs. Riding accidents.

Questionnaire #11 - Grab Bag
What is your favourite mode of transportation?

A horse.

Can you cook?

Yes, I can cook most normal food. Not fancy stuff, though.

Do you have big feet?

I think they're about average.

What is the square root of 169?

13.

If you could change your name to anything you wanted, what would you change it to?

I like it as it is.

What is the sound of one hand clapping?

A sort of swishing noise.
