Yes We Can

"It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."Sir Winston Churchill
British politician (1874 - 1965)
Our form of government may not be perfect.  But it is effective, and often it is reflective of the true mood of The People.

We do not all agree.  But at least we are allowed to disagree - something for which I am thankful every day.

The People spoke today.  The People chose Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States of America.

I voted for this man.  I am proud of my vote.  I voted my conscience and I believe that President Elect Obama is capable and ready to bring this country back to greatness.

He has the health and fitness required do this job well.  I will never worry that he might have a stroke or a heart attack or may be going senile.

If something were ever to happen to President Obama, I have faith that Vice President Joe Biden has the experience and ability to step in to that role.

The previous administration of this nation has made us many enemies in this world.  They have recklessly thrown away American lives and millions upon millions of dollars in a so-called war which is supported by less than a quarter of our population.  I believe that Barack Obama will re-allocate this nations resources in such a way that we will once again feel safe and secure within our own borders - rather than sending those same resources to other soveriegn nations.

Our economy has collapsed.
Blame who you want.  I do not care.  I choose to believe that frivolous spending choices by the Bush administration (such as fruitless war-mongering), combined with the theory of 'trickle-down' economics has ruined us.

The time has come for us to band together as a people and a nation to protect our interests as a people and a nation.

Believe me, I fear socialism.  I fear a re-distribution of wealth.

Theses things are not happening.  Obama has never said that they were his intentions.

The Republican theory of economics says that if you give tax breaks to the upper 10% (not an exact figure, please don't waste effort flaming me over it) then they will pass on that saved wealth on to the rest of the people.  But that is not a reality.  People hoarde their money.  I would.
A strong economy must have a strong foundation.  That foundation is the middle class.  The middle class do not hoarde their cash.  They spend it.  The money of the middle class moves.  Movement is the one true sign of a healthy economy.  So if the middle class have more money to move around, then it will cycle through to all of us.

So how do we build this foundation?  Those of us who are fortunate enough to be considered wealthy may occasionally be asked to contribute a higher percentage of their income.  This tax is not then handed over to the poor.  Wealth is not re-distributed.  Barack Obama is not Robin Hood.  However, this is a great nation with a vast infrastructure which needs to be supported.  Be a patriot.  Pay your taxes and do it with pride.  So what of you have to take one less vacation this year?  Really.  Who cares?  Your extra contribution will allow one of us poor folk (those of us making less than $250,000 per year) to more easily pay down our debts.  Your extra contribution will allow us the luxury of being able to support you business, spending money at your business, encouraging others to do so.  The great circle of life continues and....  WITH JUST A LITTLE TIME AND PATIENCE...  the economy grows.  And in just a few short years we are all better off.  Then with any luck we can then propose a new tax plan which will sustain our economy.  We must first fix our problems.  Then we can moderate.

Under a trickle-down tax system the gap between the rich and the poor widens.  Soon, there will only be those of us near poverty and the truly wealthy.  I am thankful that we have avoided that potential.  We will now have a President who can stabaliza our economy.

As much as I do not even want to touch this issue...  Barack Obama is the first black President of the USA.  This is a great thing and a big deal.  Sometimes I still see far too much racism for my comfort.  I enjoy a good racial joke.  I understand that there are cultural differences between people.  But sometimes I still see true hate, and I feel shame.  However, as I listened to President Elect Barack Obama declare victory this evening, I had nothing but great pride in my country for doing this.

Barack Obama is my President and yours.  Duly elected by a relatively vast majority of the voters of this nation - he has been chosen to lead this country.  He loves this country, as I do.  I beg you all, regardless of party association, age, race, creed, economic status to show him the respect due to an indisputedly great man.  These are tough times.  We all need to work together and contribute and with Barack Obama we will drag this country up out of the ditch it currently sits in.
We will NO LONGER be the laughing-stock of the world.
We will be respected.
We will be powerful.
We will prosper.

Take a moment.  Think about it.  Re-read some policies.
You will believe.

Yes We Can.
