Appropiately enough, just two days before her official "four month" date, she rolled over! She's got my sense of "be on time". :)
I actually missed it the first time she did it - I put her on her stomach on her play mat, and then looked away long enough to put a bandaid on my finger, then glanced over and went "huh?? you're on your back??". She did it again while I was watching, but Shane missed it. Off flying his goddamn planes of course.
One of the meaties died - and we're not sure why. This is hands-down the highest mortality we've had on a batch of chickens. I dunno if they just weren't healthy to start with, or if the shipping stress is continuing to off them. Out of 35, we've lost 9 now. Thankfully enough people are buying that we'll just about break even on the cost. It's frustrating though - I was hoping to make a profit on this batch! Plus, every one that dies comes out of *ours* not the sale chickens, so that's one less in our freezer. But if I don't sell enough, than we don't break even, which is my ultimate goal (essentially free meat for us - ignoring butchering time cost).
I got some time in the garden last night!! I'm SO excited about this, it's almost impossible to garden with Lilli, I'm sad to say. I can't be running all over the yard to grab stuff or move stuff, I have to either have her strapped to me or in a swingy that I can't walk away from. Strapped to me is nice, but I'm limited then in what I can do - no weeding because it's hard to bend down and up with her, no shoveling/pickaxing because of the jarring, and no carrying buckets of rocks because of the "can't keep a hand on her". *sigh* So the swingy works, but I can't walk away from her so it limits what I can do as well *and* she gets annoyed after being in it for awhile. She was patient with me last night for almost an hour while I turned soil over and cleared a nice big area on one of the top terraces. I sat in the fresh soil and nursed her when she got impatient, just soaking in the view of the garden and my little sprout. I got a blister, which made me amusing happy!
