[1.08] You're too old to lose it, too young to choose it

It wasn't that Ruby was particularly against the whole kittens in a basket concept, she liked being warm, but belonging was a different ballpark. She'd waited until Dean was asleep to even enter the room and was only wheedled into laying down because Alec had asked her to.

She didn't want to.

So when Elle woke up and then went back to sleep, Ruby figured... oh well. She slipped out of the enormous bed, hushing Alec and nudging Ally towards him, and settled herself in one of the hospital chairs. Legs pulled up against her chest, she rested her chin on her knees and watched the family sleep. Funny how something so painful could bring them so close.

Truth of the matter was, it didn't work for her.

She was just a demon, albeit Alec's, but just a demon nonetheless. The only way Sam and Dean would think twice about killing her was because Alec would be upset. But humans were brilliantly resiliant and Ruby knew that, eventually, he would bounce back and they'd both be there to help him. She wondered faintly, if this is what it was like to be the so called red-headed bastard child- always there but never belonging.

God, she was a shitty demon. All emotional and ... human. It was gross.

With a soft sigh, bordering on sadness, she hugged herself tighter and closed her eyes, fighting sleeplessness in a tiny uncomfortable violently colored plastic chair so she could just sleep and not have to think. Dean's deal was coming due faster and faster and she couldn't stop it.

She was almost thankful they didn't have the Colt. At least for the time being.
