State of the hedgehog

Yesterday was one of those days when I go around feeling uncomfortably askew in the world, not quite at home in my own skin, with various interactions during the course of the day having unintended scratchiness.

Don't know why some days are like this. Of course, it didn't help that both Germaine Greer and Lionel Shriver were banging on in the Guardian G2, and that at work there was a fire-alarm just as I was about to meet someone to go out to lunch. Also, I am cross with the BBC's 'Listen Again' feature.

But these were just further irritants to the general feeling, not causative.

And yet there were good things about the day.

I did manage to meet up with person I was going to have lunch with (who had been evacuated by different route) and it was nice to get together after far too long not seeing one another. And have delicious South Indian vegetarian buffet, something I also seem not to have had for far too long after the travels of the autumn.

I went (through pelting rain) to an interesting seminar at the IHR in the evening, and saw several people whom it was nice to see. Though also someone who was working with us many years ago on a project, who had rather distressing personal news, and was also asking me about the latest on various people who I don't actually much like and the intricacies of whose lives I do not keep up with.

And then Tube was tiresome getting home.

Some days just don't fit properly.

Today I am off work again (using up my use-it-or-lose leave days from last year) and have so far done nothing constructive, having been drooping around with a sinus attack that is only just dispersing.
