Not a happy hedgehog: credit card saga

Dec 02, 2005 21:38

Last month when I got my credit card statement, it was clear that they had not received my cheque the previous month. I checked with my bank, who confirmed that it had not been debited to my account, and my conclusion was 'Bastard Post Office'. I therefore immediately posted off a cheque, inclusive of late fee, interest, etc.

Rather over a week later I had an extremely heavy letter from the credit card company - I should mention here perhaps that the amount outstanding was approximately 3% of my credit limit - which took so grim a tone that I expected to read on the second page that they had the broker's men standing by to come in and distrain on my furniture. In fact what it said was 'if you have remitted a cheque within the past week, ignore all the above'.

On receiving my latest statement, I discovered that the latest cheque I'd sent had not been credited to my account.

I contacted my bank, who informed me that the cheque in question had gone through, well before the date of my card statement. I then informed the credit card company, who claimed that they had not received it, and told me to get back to the bank for further details of who had cashed the cheque.

Bank informed me that cheque was paid in by credit card company, and has their stamp on the back (as mentioned above, well before the date of the statement). They can send me a copy for a modest charge.

Fortunately I do have other cards that I can use, while I try to get this sorted out. But really.

inefficiency, credit card
