Article in today's Guardian about Nushu, the 'secret women's language' of China, and the current (heritagique) revival of same. I am sure that there are those of you who know far more about this subject and can probably pick up errors and over-simplifications.

From yesterday: those frighteners about late motherhood statistically deconstructed: Gavyn Davies does the maths. Also comment by Jenny Colgan, who also considers the French drive to encourage breeding for la patrie:
France is now offering €1,000 a month to encourage middle-class mothers to have more kids.... if a country brimming with free childcare and tax breaks can't get its birthrate above 1.9 children, maybe it's time to say, "You know what, women, you're free to do what you want with your life, even if you aren't creating enough consumers."

And on an entirely different subject, a cyclist grouch:
Cyclists! stopping at pedestrian crossings means you, too!
(Weaving uncertainly around pedestrian - me - trying to cross road is not a desirable course of action.)
