A really peculiar happenstance

Over the years, my dearios, I have, it would seem, gained sufficient esteem over various fields with no particular association with one another that I have been asked to be on panels adjudicating awards. (Will concede that there was nothing there approximating e.g. the Nobel or the Booker.)

(I am still wondering what happened to the one that made, to the best of my recollection, two awards in Name of Deceased Distinguished Scholar and then faded.)

But anyway, none of these occasions was of particularly recent date.

Imagine, therefore, my astonishment, and possibly slight degree of paranoia (how did they even discover me?), to be contacted by someone representing a group reading A Text which won an award which was one with which I had something to do, back in the day.

Asking pretty please might I contribute to their discussions?

Ahem.

A)I have not revisited Text In Question since that time, and it is by no means fresh in my memory (?understatement).

and

B) No, I do not think it appropriate to talk generally about being part of the award panel.

I concede that it was not the College of Cardinals and the same omerta probably does not apply: but even so I feel there is a duty of discretion, even if I have some vague recollection of Booker judges breaching the code of silence over their deliberations.

Nor has there been anything approaching the kind of hoohah that erupted about the Nobel...
