Would it necessarily be about the moolah?

I see, all across Twitter, that Wardle, the guy who made Wordle, has sold it for a Very Substantial Sum -

And some people are apparently groaning about Selling Out To The Man.

And others are saying, well, this be the law of the jungle of the internet, that running something off one's own site is not a sustainable thing these days.

And others are saying, as soon as The Little Person creates something that brings All The Beings To The Yard, EvilCorporation jumps in to ASSIMILATE it.

And others are saying, he probably needs the money, or, at least, that is a lot of F-U dough to have.

Here is this thing that somebody created pretty much just for fun and for their partner and family and friends, and then it took off, and okay, some of it must be about the money -

But isn't, perhaps, some of it the recognition? Making something that not only creates the kind of buzz this did but has people prepared to lash out this amount of moolah -

(I forget what film or play or whatever it was in which villainous money type says that the money is the means by which he keeps score - i.e. not so much about what he can buy with it.)

Me, I am, for generational reasons, in the happy position of being able to make things for people without feeling I have to then hustle to monetise them -

But, honestly, if somebody came along and waved megabucks at me for the rights to a Massive Budget TV Serialisation of the Clorindaverse -

My gratification would be off the scale.
