Does not life hold much more?

I was reading this and thinking 'huh'?: Your work is not your god: welcome to the age of the burnout epidemic.
Because, surely, or maybe it is no longer the case these days, or for that demographic represented by the writer, there are things people do with their time when not working that are not a state of mindless collapse or drinking themselves insensible?
There are all sorts of things that people do or did that give life meaning - forms of voluntary association for various purposes (political, religious, charitable, civic, activist), hobbies of various kinds whether sports or crafts, enjoyment of culture, etc etc.
And I suspect that Ye Olde Protestant Ethic was also about doing stuff in the time you were not actually Doing Capitalism.
Or are people now obliged to Work All The Hours?
On the other hand (maybe - I am not sure this is entirely an On The Other Hand)) there are people expecting their jobs to be entirely fulfilling and immediately chucking them up if they do not come up to this expectation. Though possibly there is more in play with this, actually 30 is not all that young, man: He is ambitious and enthusiastic, but he’s now in his fourth job, and already wants to leave after just a few months: When he starts a new job, he is generally happy, but within a short time he realises there’s a gap between the job description and the reality, and wants to get out because he feels he’s wasting his time. He says the problems he encounters are poor management and bad organisation.
Four times over??? Hmmmmmm.
