In Dept of Life Aggravations, having the phone ring when I have barely got up and started upon my a.m. exercises and find it is a credit card co wanting to talk me through whether I am me, that is my card, and whether I made that payment they have just declined -
- which happened to be for our Waitrose groceries order for the next week, aaaarrrrgh -
- is I suppose not really among the worst, but it is pretty aggravating.
(It was really my credit card company and my card and it was a recognisable payment I had made: earlier in the week there had been a distinctly dodgy call to partner about a charge on a card.)
So we clarified that, yes, I was me, and that was a genuine payment, and they then texted my mobile to confirm.
And then, while I was having lunch, Waitrose rang because the charge had been declined and credit card co had not, apparently, taken the stop off payment, so they had to put in through again, rather a short time before our delivery was actually due.
I am not sure why they did this: it is not as though Waitrose were a dodgy fly by night enterprise or as though I am not these days charging things rather a lot via online payment to my cards. Possibly I have not used this one before for Waitrose, but even so.
I also discovered that I had uploaded a wrong file for something that was publishing today: having amended this now but thought I had by now got myself correcting for the possibility in the first place, sigh.
In good news, however, I discover that ALCS will be paying me a nice little sum in the September distribution for arrears of photocopying of the same chapter in the same book (presumably for student packs?) annually since 2016. Since it's one of those 'Companion to' vols, and came out in 2005, I'm a bit stunned. But still, nice one.
