Hunting and gathering from my desk, actually not a picnic

May 08, 2020 20:01

Feeling a bit frazzled on the shopping front this week - was not able to get a delivery slot in spite of obsessive refreshing, not exactly conducive to getting on with anything else with any concentration.
In the case of other things besides routine grocery shopping - and honestly, navigating round online supermarkets is a bit of a faff, I think it even exceeds that thing when one's usual place decides it's going to move everything into different aisles - it's more time-consuming than one might think, not just a matter of sitting at one's desk and clicking.
Back in the day, there were various things - toiletries, odds and bobs - that I could just purchase while out and about on other business, and I knew which shops were likely to have the things I was looking for (e.g. the chemists that had the particular brand of supplements I was recommended years ago by the nutritionist at Grayshott...) so I could factor them in to my route.
But now it's searching, and finding who has them in stock, and trying to find somewhere that has a reasonable critical mass of things I need in stock...
And will actually deliver, because several weeks ago I came across an enterprise which had a very impressive selection of my favoured brand of herbal teas, so I placed an order, and nothing happened, and after chasing them up a couple of times and having them bewail the problems of supply they were experiencing, cancelled it, and placed an order with another business which did not have quite as impressive a range, but has actually managed to deliver well within the week.
Plus, I am not sure what's with Kobo, but this week I have been unable to download several purchases via the desktop interface, nor have I been able to download them directly to the ereader via wifi. Had to sideload via Calibre.
Yes, first-world problems. But annoying.
