Art at the Tate

Partner and I excursed to Tate Modern today to visit the Olafur Eliasson In real life - we were somewhat less than whelmed by the exhibition itself - not as good as the one I visited in San Francisco some while since - but we were actually quite impressed by the associated lunch event, Studio Olafur Eliasson Kitchen at the Terrace Bar, rather delicious - more so than one might have guessed from the menu description - veggie food.
However, the Dora Maar Retrospective was definitely worth the visit. Interesting her early involvement with commercial photography - not just advertising (some of which looks fairly surreal) but apparently also did erotic photography (not really much of that on display) - and then the confluence of social observation/surrealism (one is a little reminded of Mass Observation, which does not seem to have influenced her?). Exhibition does show that she was established and had a network by the time she met Picasso and there was mutual influence there going on (though apparently considerable emotional complexities given that he had other relationships going on).
