Well, okay, today I did a recording (for which I believe I may even anticipate remuneration) on a particularly persistent factoid lying generally within my sphere of interest, for some podcast thinggy, so I am not entirely off the radar.
And when there are a limited number of slots at a conference I am, in principle, on the side of those going to younger scholars who need the exposure and the experience, not to mention the funding, and it is gratifying nevertheless, even if my paper is not accepted, to be solicited to attend, if I can manage it.
But, frankly, I do work up a bit of a miff when, over the past few months I have had repeated requests for research help from a meedja researcher person, none of them, I suppose, very arduous or time-consuming in themselves, but it all rather mounted up over time. And, gee, at least there seems to be some remote possibility that I might get a credit, wheeeee. But, am I not a Nexpert on the subject upon which my expertise has been sought? Have I not been on Ye Telly being a Nexpert on various occasions? I take a certain amount of exception upon hearing that the person who is going to be presenting on the topic (presumably on the basis on information provided by moi) is A Young Hot Historian who is all over the place these days, or so it seems.
So I tell myself that this person does a lot of meedja work but is presumably running a freelance career in the present economic climate and is probably a member of the precariat obliged to hustle for a living in the cultural sector, and I should be in charity towards them.
But, even so. Grrrrrrr.
