Swings and roundabouts...

Okay, this story seems to have got a lot of coverage and a storm of Twitter outrage: Seaside town's high-tech anti-sex toilets will spray users with water.
And honestly, I've had enough embarrassing moments with those hair-trigger motion-operated automatic flush systems...
(Carry on at your Convenience was the 22nd in the series of Carry On films to be made, and was the first box office failure of the series, but it was actually set in WC Boggs 'bathroom ceramics factory' rather than involving high jinx around public loos.)
However, back in the big bad city, rather than the prurient Welsh seaside, London council saves gay fetish club from redevelopment: The UK’s last remaining strict leather and rubber fetish gay club has been saved after a London council blocked plans to redevelop the East End site into a 12-storey residential tower. Tower Hamlets ruled against the proposed 46-flat development on Mile End Road because it would “harm the long-term provision of a nightclub that serves the LGBT+ community”. Cllr Rachel Blake, the borough’s deputy mayor, said the council viewed the 34-year-old Backstreet bar as “an important community asset” and was “going the extra mile… to protect safe spaces for our diverse community”. “It is the last true gay fetish club, and diversity matters to us,” she said. “This kind of venue really matters to us, it matters to Tower Hamlets and to the whole of London. It is very important to have safe spaces for the whole community.”

'For there is in London, all that life can afford', and given that there is some evidence that Dr Johnson was into manacles, I'm sure he would have been on board with this. This entry was originally posted at https://oursin.dreamwidth.org/2963970.html. Please comment there using OpenID. View
