No bread made this week (last week's held up well).
ETA Completely forgot to mention: Friday night supper,
ven pongal, or South Indian khichchari. V good.
Saturday breakfast rolls:
brown grated apple with maple sugar and mixed spice.
Today's lunch:
plaice fillets in coriander butter, served with okra and tenderstem broccoli roasted in pumpkin seed oil with fennel seeds*, padron peppers, and couscous with toasted pinenuts and raisins**.
* I am not sure I have ever mentioned the influence about how things end up being cooked of the availability of cooking pots/number of gas-rings/etc: I had originally intended to do the 'simmered in coconut milk with ginger, green coriander, chile and fish sauce' with these, and then realised that the pan I would use for this is the one I would be using for poaching the plaice fillets.... But how I did do them came out very nicely. There was also the advance toasting of pinenuts to leave the frying pan free for padron pepper sauteing.
**Waitrose wholemeal couscous falls into that category of things where the packet instructions are RONG - MFK Fisher has a riff on this somewhere - I thought, 'That doesn't look right' when adding water in the quantity indicated, and I was dead right and had to hastily rustle up a new batch with the proper proportions.
