Well, focusing on what 2018 was like for me...
It did not start terribly well, I was quite depressed in January, partly due to its being the anniversary of my father's death and partly due to partner having a bad and lingering go of that nasty flu that was going around in spite of having had the relevant jab some months previous.
However.
I managed to get out the volumes of Clorinda's memoirs in published form on a relatively regular monthly basis until the series was completed; AND to find myself continuing to produce additional tales within the Clorinda-verse, which there is an intention to prepare for publication.
I also maintained some kind of academic presence: I'm clearly still on some kind of radar as I still get asked to referee articles/book proposals and do reviews in my niche area, give papers, etc. I also researched, wrote, and sent off a 10k-word chapter which was entirely new work rather than reworking something that had been bopping around for ages as conference papers etc. Also, did a research trip while I was in the US to the Kinsey Institute - unfortunately so much lovely material there I did not cover all the ground I had hoped to, will have to go back.
Traveling: there was the short trip to Leeds (inc Haworth and Wakefield), my US trip including Wiscon, Bloomington IN, and Colorado (and chances to catch up with friends on and off DW/LJ), and the autumn trip to Antwerp/Ghent.
Major domestic expenses: Having the roof replaced and various windows renovated/replaced.
Reading: according to Goodreads I read around 220 books, but as I didn't log all my re-reads, and as I find they're a bit weird about how they log re-reads anyway, it might be a few more, though that includes some DNFs or NYFs.
Health: arthritis still bothersome. Migraine - medication adjustments have brought about some improvement (I think). I think the whole gym membership bother impacted my general state of fitness and I'm still trying to get back into the exercise groove.
Looking forward:
I'm resistant to making resolutions, but I'm vaguely thinking of reviving my moribund academic blog as in the process of doing stuff for various projects over the year I've come across things that I'm not really interested in going full-out research-mode on but would make interesting blog-posts.
I am putting out abstracts to conferences in the hope of getting the academic juices running again.
I have taken to heart requests from the fanbase concerning what they would like to see in the Clorinda-verse.
