I am entirely on board with this article:
The joy of not finishing books. It is not obligatory to finish reading a book if you are not enjoying it and it has become a dreary slog, unless there is some ulterior purpose exterior to the process.
But that decision is in the reader's own hands.
I fancy, from the outcries I have already seen on Twitter and Facebook about this -
"He adopted this method of ripping out the pages of my book so I would pay attention to him," she said. "It would drive me crazy because I'd have 30 pages left and it would be gone." - she being an actress and he an actor who were both working on the same film - that I am far from the only person who was blud thickt with cold, and indeed this may have reached quite epidemic levels as the tale spread.
In what universe is that acceptable behaviour?
Can he possibly think that is cute? I would say that it does not come under the heading of 'pranking', except when I consider the matter, most instances that I've come across when the term has been used strike me as nasty and aggressive behaviour: file under the worn-out tired excuse 'it was only a joke'.
Personally, I would be inclined to claim that the book in question was not only a copy treasured for individual sentimental reasons but also a rare and practically irreplaceable edition and sue for damages. LARGE damages. VERY large damages.
It's bad enough when people think that somebody reading is a cue for them to start a conversation, rather than letting the person read in peace, but this goes into further realms of awfulness.
