Bread made during the week: Len Deighton's Mixed Wholemeal from the Sunday Times Book of Bread - 3:1 wholemeal/strong white/1 mixture of wheatgerm, coarse cornmeal and porridge oats. Very nice.
Saturday breakfast rolls: I started out to make the eclectic vanilla rolls and then realised, oops, the vanilla essence was culled as way past its best before date during a recent store cupboard clearout and not yet replaced, so I added maple sugar instead. Still nice.
Today I was off in South London being A Nexpert, at a time precluding cooking Sunday lunch, what with the travel faff etc (even if TFL were misleading about Problems On the Tube, which had resolved by the time I got to the station), so I cooked us a meal at home yesterday evening, as there was nothing we felt much inclined to go out for: starter of avocados with an olive oil/balsamic vinegar vinaigrette - these were just at absolutely the right point of ripeness, yum; then lemon sole fillets brushed with egg and milk and coated with panko crumbs seasoned with salt, pepper and garam masala and panfried in olive oil and butter, served with buttered spinach and asparagus spears healthy-grilled in pumpkin seed oil and splashed with bramble vinegar.
