Aristocrat sues France for €351m in row over Monaco throne.
A French-born aristocrat is suing France for €351m (£313m) in damages, claiming it tricked his family out of inheriting the throne of Monaco.
Louis de Causans alleges that he and his relatives would have been in the line of succession if not for a “sleight of hand” by the French state more than a century ago.
I cannot help thinking that there must still be plenty of scions of former ruling families, up and down Europe and elsewhere, who were displaced from their thrones by diplomacy or other means over the course of the centuries (is there not, indeed, still a Stuart pretender somewhere about??) who might, if this goes through, feel that they have an equally good case for suing for the amount they should have had their great-great-great-ancestor not been cheated of his (or her) rights.
