Yes, my dearios, I am now in New York, looking out onto Canal Street and Broadway.
Although I had a rather severe migraine last night, mitigated but not actually halted by the wonder drug, which rendered me rather unsure about my proposed travel today and I even made enquiries about cost of cab from Long Island to Manhattan: not quite entirely prohibitive, if I'd still been migrainey it would have been worth it, but in fact there was gradual dispersal over the course of the morning.
Went to a fascinating panel at which
tigerflower shared some of her research.
There were, if not actually scheduled, at least running, shuttles back to the hotel, so I got back to the hotel, checked out my stored luggage and asked them to call a cab,
I went not to the nearest railway station (very few trains on Sundays) but to one which not only had more services but also these turned out not to make so many stops.
Managed to find lift and escalators out of Penn station, bringing me out, mirabile dictu, by the taxi rank, where there was not an enormous queue.
(Gosh, one is spoilt by the London cabbie and their Knowledge. I bet they would know, it's probably on the test, which side of a street a particular number/named hotel was.)
Though the hotel room is small and a bit basic, it is clean and there is an en suite bathroom. Also lifts. And a coffee shop next door. And a subway station practically in the basement. And free wifi.
Although it was a little rainy, flaneused a little around the immediate area, and had a healthy vegan bowl for dinner (old Australian friend and I were commiserating about the lack of fruit and veg that travel so often involves, so I thought this might make up for several days of institutional catering.)
