I was in one of the charity shops while doing my shopping, and waiting to pay for a copy of Helen Rappaport's book Beautiful For Ever: Madame Rachel of Bond Street - Cosmetician, Con-Artist and Blackmailer, which has been on my 'vaguely interested' list for some while,
And in front of me at the till was a chap with a pair of boots, which seemed to be in reasonable nick, priced at £6 (which must have been a bare 10% of the price new, and probably less).
And he asked the young woman at the till if he could get something knocked off that extremely reasonable price, because there was some slight thing - he had to point inside one of the boots - not quite entirely pristine about them.
WOT.
And she had to go out to the back and talk to the manager and come back and say the price is as is.
So I was thinking that there are circumstances when one might reasonably try to get a bit knocked off the price of something.
I just don't think a charity shop is that circumstance.
