Phyllida Barlow: an artistic outsider who has finally come inside.
I'm not saying that 'outsider' necessarily = 'woman artist' but have we not seen this sort of thing before, my dearios?
If a woman in a creative field wants recognition, she should either die young and tragically (or at least have a tragic story, e.g.
having one's nearest and dearest put one into a lunatic asylum) -
Or else she has to struggle on for decades of no recognition (if no worse) while continuing to pursue her artistic vision -
And I wonder, does the final recognition have to do with the male peers who excluded or marginalised her dropping off the perch?
