Not so much woowoo alert as dubious bollox alert

Me! Me! Me! Are we living through a narcissism epidemic?
Er, probably not??
So much problematicness there.
Okay, when you align something with the 'obesity epidemic', I'm going, hmmmm? there and thinking about what is your baseline for the assertions you are making about change over time - i.e. have you invented a problem and started seeing it everywhere but that was not the frame that people were hitherto using for any of the phenomena described.
Plus, the business of the construction of moral panics, and all that stuff that yr hedjog is wont to cite about a recurring trend when seeing huge panicky claims about Modern Life WOEZ This Present Generation WOEZ: this seems pretty much a textbook example.
(Would it be worth researching whether there was WOEZERY over people going to cinema and sitting in atomised silence in the dark watching movies flicker on screen rather than going to ye trad communal music hall?)
I'm also, these people do not understand social media and that it is large and contains multitudes.
Plus, is it Ye Present Generation or is it the condition of being in one's twenties as a more general experience that leads to the (possibly anyway dubious) claim that people in their twenties score higher on the narcissism index than older people?
Also, people have kept diaries about their fascinating selves for a very long time, and I find the published diaries of people who perchance might qualify as having a certain narcissistic component to their personalities fascinating, and often very rewarding, reading.
