I'm not sure this is the most effective way to do your family history

I do not think anyone is going to get very far in doing their family history by contacting every person on the internet (even, I guess, limiting that to the UK) who happens to share that surname to ask if they are related to the family of that name from a particular part of the UK.

(In my case, it was a comment to my professional blog.)

This might work in the case of a really unusual surname; but we're dealing with one of the most common UK surnames.

Even if they did come from the same area, that was a really densely urbanised/suburban county at the turn of the C19th/C20th, so lots of people with that surname and not terribly likely to all be related.
