Stepping Westwards for Mrs N

May 30, 2009 21:08

Okay, not as far westwards as the De Young in San Francisco, but to the wilder reaches of Shepherds Bush to the Louise Blouin Foundation for the Louise Nevelson Dawns and Dusks exhibit.

And there were points when I wondered if we would be getting there at all, firstly when partner noticed that guttering was pulling away from the roof (eventually determined to be non-urgent and not needing ringing round roofers on a Saturday and waiting in for them to turn up) and secondly when wandering round a council estate near Latimer Road Tube Station trying to locate the Foundation.

But we did get there and it was well worth it. Although it was nothing like as extensive as the exhibition in SF, and mostly works from the 70s and 80s, there was some excellent stuff there - though also a few items which looked as though they were what was lying around in Nevelson's studio as uncompleted experiments, work in progress, or thoughts towards larger works. Can see that they might have had some difficulty in finding a more central space with enough room for Nevelson (in fact, almost too much...)

Glad to have seen this.

We then proceeded on to the Westfield Shopping Centre for some minimalist weekend shopping - we'd originally, pre-guttering crisis, intended to go shopping locally, then over to Shepherds Bush in the late afternoon followed by dinner, probably in one of the many establishments at the Westfield Centre. In the event it went, exhibition, shopping (the Westfield Centre is really quite scarily huge), and home, and then out to the local gastropub.
