E went all out for our date night last week!
He made the reservation without me knowing and only after I annoyingly demanded where we're going did he tell me :P
Alto is the only revolving restaurant in Canberra, perched up high within the Telstra Tower in the Black Mountain. I've always wanted to go, even though it receives mixed reviews. Most negative reviews mentioned the cost (quite high) and that you're basically paying for the view and not the food.
I have to disagree with those negative reviews.

CRAB AND LIME - $24 - Polenta and crisp egg coared crab, lime chilli and garlic dressing, served with a mango and leek salad
Yes, the prices are pretty steep, but it's not that much more expensive than other 5-star restaurants around. With my dish, I believe I got a pretty good serve size. The quality was good too, I loved every dish we had. The star dish would have to be my pastry pie filled with chicken liver, YUM-O!
LAMB AND RISOTTO - $38 -Lamb fillet wellington, preserved lemon and onion jam, shank and thyme rillettes, black truffle and shallot risotto , veal and pepper jus
DUCK AND LIVER - $38 - Citrus confir leg, chicken liver and brandied fruti pitivier, green lentil and spec ragout, mustard seed and carrot pickle
Yes, the manager wasn't friendly (almost to the point of being rude) but the waitresses were good. They were attentive and pleasant. Being an expensive restaurant, you do tend to EXPECT good service, so I guess if all the waitresses were like the manager, then yes, they do have crap service.
Desiree chips - $9 - House cut desiree chips with a celeriac aioli
Yes, the dishes took a looooong time to arrive, but we didn't mind it as it lets us just talked and enjoying the view.
And boy! The view is incredible or what?! As it revolves, you catch 360 degree view of Canberra. Add sunset to it, and it's pretty awesome! We stayed for over 2 hours there, enjoying our time and the view.
I do have to mention that their chocolate souffle is not a souffle, it was more of a really fluffy chocolate cake. It was really really yum nevertheless.
DARK CHOCOLATE AND CHERRIES - $15 - Dark chocolate souffle, poached black cherries, fennel ans all spice ice cream
I really enjoyed our date, we'd definitely go back. Thank you to E for organising such a special date "just because" *love*
