So after the disappointing
Ramen dinner, we went next door to Roti House to check out their dessert menu. I felt a little weird that we're basically restaurant-hopping, but the waiter said that it was fine for us just to have dessert :)
Roti House also has an extensive menu on offer, all of which are definitely drool-worthy sounding. Balachan Kangkong? I can't remember the last time I had those! Ketupat??? At least 2 years since my last one! It was sooo soo hard for me not to have a second dinner right there and then. I am definitely going back there for the food! Though I did not on their
website that they're the same owner as the
Malaysian restaurant at Garran that we didn't like. So I am definitely hoping that they have a different chef!
This was my dessert - Banana in roti with condensed milk and ice cream. It was super duper yummy! The roti was all flaky and slightly salty and warm and doughy. The slices of bananas were cooked and sweet and mushy. The ice cream and the condensed milk gave each mouthful the right amount of sweetness. My mouth is salivating as I typed this! This was $10, which is pretty pricey considering what is in it, but I have yet to find one that is AS good here in ACT, so I am returning.
This was E's Es Chendol. He couldn't decide between this and Ice Kachang, so I made the decision for him. Again, it has been years since I last had chendol, whereas Ice Kachang was easily found in Brisbane :) This dish was $7.5, which is so exorbitantly expensive when you think about the size of the bowl and how much you could get this dish in Indon. Again, I have yet to find one anywhere in ACT, so I'm not going to complain (yet :P). The gula malaka syrup and condensed milk in each mouthful of soft ice shavings is so so more-ish. I'm not too fussed on the actual chendol, I think they need to use stronger pandan flavouring :)
Because we didn't have any cash, and the minimum EFTPOS amount was $20, we also got Iced Teh Tarik to take away. I was disappointed to note that it was pre-made, and so it didnt have the froth that essentially gave Teh Tarik its name. It tasted yummy though, but again at $4.00 for a small cup, it is super pricey!
