body and appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Hasibe is very tall--five foot ten and on the slim side, but she does have curves that would prevent her from being a runway model (she is, as she informed someone once, "a little more Vicky's Secret", implying that she tries to take effort to stay 'couture' and not 'kinda Maxim looking'). She stays in shape with running and Kundalini yoga, which emphasizes the waist/hip ratio without broadening the abdomen -- her hourglass shape is something she doesn't want to lose with the wrong kind of athletics. Sometimes she fusses over the width of her hips, but as she gets into her mid-late twenties she's decided she likes them a bit more.
2. How old is she? 26.
3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
Poised, always, even at her worst, because it is just part of who she is. She's a former dancer, so her posture is very good- head up, shoulders back. There are three forms of natural walkers, which are head, heart, and hips (depending on which you lead by); Hasi leads by her hips, which...probably surprises absolutely no one. She does tend to sprawl when she's comfortable or sitting with someone more intimately, though, in a catlike way.
4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
In some ways she's in good shape, but she's used hard drugs, and honestly: she drinks entirely too much. If she were constantly drunk more people would notice, but it's more that she drinks to take the edge off reality, so it's like a low-level incessant buzz. She also takes a lot of OTC painkillers, sometimes by the handful.
5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Confidently. She is supposed to be kind of an "It girl", with that dangerous and troubled and mysterious vibe blah blah calculated image, and it reflects in the easy grace she has. When something is preoccupying her or making her mood go south she might be somewhat precise, but as a rule she tends to be like quicksand.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
This is an important part of her character. Hasi's physical beauty - and presence - are such that she can (and has, in RP) stop a room simply by entering it; she is endowed with some otherworldliness due to her ancestry, but a lot of it is also just being really fucking interesting-looking; she is not Another Goddamn Blonde or even particularly similar-looking to most of the brunettes out there, which is possibly because she is an ethnicity you don't see a lot of in popular Western media (Kurdish). Her actress is very good in this regard, because pretty girls are common, and beautiful girls are even pretty common in the industry Hasibe is in, but she's very natural, which is what is rare about her, and she is incredibly expressive, which is I think her best feature. Her deceased husband described her as having a kind of "doe-eyed fragility" as well as a very effortless and potent sexuality/sensuality- she neither fully occupies the role of innocent ingenue or vamp, channelling both at once, and she does know it. That's the thing with her: she'll never downplay her own looks or complain about them, which would make her look like a huge asshole, because they're a part of her job, but at the same time she is pretty aware that this is just a random act of genetics and will only go so far and furthermore sometimes you do not actually want to be looked at. So she has this kind of love/hate relationship where she makes a career around being an object of lust for men, which is very easy for her and not something she genuinely minds, while simultaneously kind of knowing she's selling a fantasy, not the truth. Also her actress is a lovely weirdo who goes on national TV without wearing any make-up, which is also something Hasi does a lot.
7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Clear-skinned and on the lighter side of olive-complected; she tans easily and well, in the summer.
8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
Fucking ridiculous. Okay, no: Hasi's hair is black with a reddish tint in some light, thick, wavy, and extremely long. It is Serious Amazing Hair. She used to pretend-antagonize her husband by threatening to cut it, because it requires some maintenance; she often wears it in a braid, or up.
9. What color are her eyes?
Treyu totally thought I'd photoshopped this and then saw an uniconed cap and was like "whoa dude", so I am stating it here for the record: no, she's just like this, although sometimes the color saturation gets enhanced with Gaussian blur. Her eyes are a) huge, and b) a type of hazel which often look gold, sometimes intensely and a little alarmingly so. They also have green in them at some turns, but mostly it's the really pale golden-brown.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
She has very well-groomed eyebrows, because she is Middle Eastern and French and knows how to deal with that shit: threading, it's the answer to all your brow-related problems. And she has kind of full/naturally-pink lips. Her top incisors are slightly crooked, which makes them look a bit fangy; she will probably encounter pressure to have this fixed, but it's doubtful it'll ever actually occur because she is too goddamn busy, okay, and it's not a big deal. Flaws! They happen!
11. What are her chief tension centers?
Spine and the back of her neck - it's not unusual to see her reaching back, when she doesn't think anyone will notice, to massage her neck a little.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
Hasibe grew up being sort of disinterested in clothing because she thought it was ~consumerist garbage~ and then she started modeling and realized it was also a very good way to take control of her appearance, because it made her feel like she'd put some work in it. She has very classic and elegant tastes, and that also tends to mean very expensive tastes, although she is not inclined to purchase things simply because they cost a lot or have a certain designer name tag attached. Clothes are like art to her, except it's art you can wear, which rules! She'll wear most colors but preferences tend toward the power ones: red, black, white, gold, and blue, and she has an entire bedroom turned into a closet with one wall set up just for shoes, a good three fifths of which are heels, and one fifth of those are boots, especially thigh-highs. She tends to wear a lot of dresses and pencil skirts, with stockings and expensive panties (La Perla is the obvious and slightly cliched choice, though she is fond of them--Carine Gilson is her lingerie house of choice, seconded by Agent Provocateur, Kiki de Montparnasse, or maybe Aubade), and jeans or trousers only occasionally. Other designers I associate with her would be Oscar de la Renta, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen (to a degree, but his regal, gold/red Celtic-inspired stuff is inexpressibly wonderful), Herve Leger, Lanvin, and Balenciaga, Jenny Packham. If...you don't like fashion, which is fair, because it is often horrible, this will probably be incomprehensible to you, but for the purposes of visual demonstration I have polyvore collections
here and
here!
Her style is a little 40s femme fatale and a little Sensitive Artsy Witchy type, although she is fully capable of dressing like a normal person and not a mutant from the planet French Vogue, if necessary, but being old-Hollywood glamorous is part of her thing, nowadays. It began as a costume but has turned out to be real, which is convenient. She does show skin, but she has rules: if she's showing breasts and back, she covers her legs, and if she's showing leg, she thinks it's better not to show nine inches of cleavage. Additionally, while she loves jewelry, she tries to be sparing with it, sometimes going without entirely. Perfume is also a big deal here, and in way more than just the beginner's sense: ye olde Classy Ho standby Chanel No. 5 is not really her thing, being somewhat powdery, inappropriate for a 26-year-old in 2010, and also not quite complex enough, so she tends toward the holy grails of expensive/obscure perfume, specifically Guerlain's Mitsouko, Djedi, and L'heure Bleue, and Patou's Vacances for summer. Chanel's Bois des Iles is also appropriate for summer in the city, and Rochas Femme is a good bombshell scent.
CAN YOU TELL THIS IS AN IRL HOBBY OF MINE.
13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
Yes, and yes. She has a tailor! When you are that tall, it's just a good idea.
14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
When shooting a film she's obviously going to have someone doing wardrobe for her. At Alkahest, her choices tend to be somewhat skimpier or tighter than she might ordinarily go - she really digs long sleeves and sheer things and black lace on her own time, but at a cabaret type place you want to go "BAM, cocktail dress, look at my awesome rack, be hypnotized, fall in fake lust/love with me based on your projections about my personality and also give me all of your money." So she tries to maintain her personal standards - she nearly always wears the thigh high stockings, for example - while also upholding the delightfully wanton spirit of the place.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Carine Gilson, as noted, is basically perfect, even if she's the priciest of the lot. She's built just curvy enough to need a real bra if she's actually going to go anywhere important, so Jean Yu's stuff is only appropriate for wandering around casually, but it's easy to find her sizes: she loves lace, like I said, and silk. Occasionally leather, in private. She has a gigantic collection of chemises of varying lengths and sheerness, and a couple overpriced robes. Additionally, she takes great pleasure in being intensely frustrating for men who want to undress her because she'll wear a big coat, and then there's the cardigan or jacket, and then there's the jewelry to take off, and then the dress itself, and then the slip, and then under the slip there's stockings and garters and the complicatedly lovely brassiere and panties. (And then once in a while she'll wear no panties, like, "hey, surprise!" This is almost always done tactically to torture some man she likes.)
But she maintains it's worth it. Anticipation, etc.
speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
It's sort of a mezzo soprano, getting a bit lower when she's upset, and it's very...soft around the edges. I don't know how to describe voices, so here is
a clip from the first thing her actress ever did, a miniseries about the political situation in Turkey in the 1960s/70s, which is why her clothes are hysterical to look at. Her voice is pretty. The actress is wearing loafers, ankle socks, and a big shapeless flowery dress that comes down past her knees, and she is six feet tall so I think it is actually a curtain. The character she's playing cut her own hair off with shears so it's all choppy. Just watch it and laugh.
2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
Pretty evenly; it's a sign of something seriously knocking her off-balance if she ever uses "ums" or stammers. For as extroverted as she is, she is rarely loud.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
She uses "you know" a lot, which is a way of trying to always keep the other person in a conversation included and absorbed, making sure they're with her--she frequently uses first names, if that level of familiarity is there, for similar reasons. Her accent is not really strong, but she is from South Carolina, and it shows.
4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
Besides English, Hasi speaks a lot of languages, being extremely verbal and very into being a ~global citizen~ like a good little nerd; additionally she is Kurdish. The right to speak their own language or keep Kurdish names is not always granted within the countries Kurds live, namely Turkey, so it's part of her family history that they learned Sorani Kurdish in private and continue to speak it. She also speaks Arabic, Turkish, French, a little Spanish, and Russian, although the Russian is a new thing she's learned over the past couple of years throughout the course of RP. Latin or maybe Greek are next on her list. Or German!
5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
No. English is the language always she spoke outside of the home, it is a native language to her, and she doesn't have temperamental slip-ups. If she chooses to speak another language it's always deliberate. She does try to downplay her Southern accent sometimes, though, despite its not being especially heavy.
6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
Bullshitting on the fly is a survival skill, and it's one she's honed professionally and purposely. It sometimes gets her out of all the trouble she gets herself into. She prefers time to think so she can be a philosophical dork and ruminate, but she does do really well under pressure and it ends up being 99% of what she does verbally.
7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
A trick to playing Hasi is combining the fact that she's sort of old-fashioned in that she doesn't use "um" or "like" much, and she's extremely articulate, but she's generally not really all that formal, unless the situation warrants it for some reason. Also she doesn't do a lot of Diablo Cody type quippiness, which I associate with this kind of hipster teenage crowd that's the antithesis of her style, so that's something I try to avoid. I totally talk like a Diablo Cody-loving douchebag, though, because I think it's funny, but Hasi's wit is different, so I have to channel that. Old-movie one-liners and leading statements are good starts.
mental and emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
Like a lot of people in RP, I guess, I'm playing someone who is much smarter than I am. Intellectually speaking, Hasi is a voracious learner who has completed a master's degree in psychology, and she is investing time in a classical education that involves knowledge of Latin, Greek, Calculus, world history, philosophy, religion, and general trivia. This is stuff that necessitates research, but, like, I have google and wikipedia and everything, I can bluff it. Sometimes I will get things wrong, and that is okay (I love corrections), but for the most part I can learn about buying antique books or what have you pretty easily. In real life I'm actually much more competent in regards to street smarts, which she's okay with, too, but the thing that she's best at is emotional intelligence; I do okay, but she is the type of person who is uncanny in this regard. The thing that makes it easiest is paying really close attention. Hasi has a tendency to want to explore people via analyzing them, and they get the whole of her attention and sometimes this gets complicated, because it fosters an emotional connection that seems more intimate than it is. She figured out very early on that what most people want is someone to genuinely listen to them instead of just hearing them talk, and she's capable of being egoless in that situation. Because she cares! Which sort of a chicken/egg situation in regards to why her EQ is so high! Her IQ is probably about 167 or something like that, but IQ scores are something to be taken with a grain of salt, at the risk of tl;dr--she had a good start and learned early, which helps.
2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
The former, definitely. She can do more manipulating with a bit of time, but she lives so in the moment and so viscerally that she tends to decide things impulsively.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Intuitive. Hasi is driven by an analytical need to not just understand everything and everyone, but from there also empathize with them. I drew the inspiration for this from a doctor who is a friend of my family in real life, who tends to understand other people so well that he can't help but care about them, even, often times, the ones no one else particularly likes! Because they are terrible! That said, Hasi describes herself as cynical, but she's relatively middle-of-the-road in actuality, and does have a huge idealistic streak. She does not befriend terrible people hoping to fix them, she knows better, but she does think there's some good in everyone.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
Hasibe attended public school in South Carolina, did pretty well, and graduated at seventeen. She was accepted into Ivy League schools, but instead settled on Brandeis, which is still pretty prestigious, and got her BA in psychology. A couple years later, she did a two-year MA at Cornell in the same subject. Her mother was very intelligent -- she was an anarcho-socialist and wrote a book that's still circulated in some groups today -- and very much encouraged her to learn and ask questions and challenge everything, particularly the status quo. Her mother, Zeynap, was both wonderful and the scariest person ever, by the way.
5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
Okay, well, Hasibe is interested in everything. People have teased her about being a perfectionist who is determined to master every skill on the planet, but most of the time she knows a little bit, or enough to get by. She does have a few things she's really good at, though, and those are:
- Sex work, and also sexuality in general. She was an escort through college, when she met Henry, and stopped before they got married, but sexual and romantic entanglements are an integral part of what she is due to...being descended from a monster. She is, I've said elsewhere, technically a succubus, in that she draws power from potent sexual relationships and has in the past fed off energy and walked in dreams, but her powers are mostly bound now, as she prefers things. From here, for the sake of brevity, let us also extrapolate that she's pretty good with social politics and psychology, due to that being...her degrees' focus. Note: somehow her personal life is still always a trainwreck, she just knows how much her decisions suck. Self-awareness, woo!
- Mmmagic. She's still learning, but she is very good at witchcraft and has definitely put her mind to learning more.
- ~Fashion~.
- Books and poetry! She fucking loves poetry, okay.
- Dancing and performing, or: using your personal weight of presence to earn money. Her current jobs.
6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
Extrovert, though with recent withdrawn tendencies sometimes. She loves people, though, and she loves to be social, so if she's being shy and quiet and hiding away, something is probably pretty wrong. She is good at getting close to other people but more uncertain about letting them get close to her.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
As a rule, it is extremely hard to get under Hasi's skin, and she does it kind of to be frustrating to people who want to see her react; she might snap back or threaten someone, but it's usually obvious when that's less a loss of emotional control and more of a gesture of controlling the other person's behavior. This is manipulative as hell, but so is she, often. It bothers her when she can't do this, like in her arrangement with her former boss/procurer Cameron, where he had so much financial power over her that she pretty much had to put up with him. Significant others will get close enough that she will sort of play-but-not-really-totally-playfight with them, which is a sign of closeness for Hasi. Being close enough to someone to bicker and have those fights that get out aggression without wrecking the relationship are healthy for her, but it's something that is lacking, these days. Her real anger runs cold, but it's still not as scary as her mercy can be.
8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
She is Interested. In everyone, but especially people who fairly obviously have secrets, are dangerous in some way, or are just keeping something from the world. This is what gets her ass into trouble all of the time. She is fascinated by the dark, both the night and the darkness in other people, and thinks it is healthiest for them to look at it and confront it instead of repressing it, but sometimes this backfires hideously, such as with Henry/Hyde and their obsession with her. I would say she's also fairly charming, both purposefully and not, because while a lot of people in Xanadu are this interested in other folks because they have terrible plans or whatever, Hasibe just finds strangers fascinating and most times really likes them regardless of whether they like her. She is mostly a social creature.
9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?
Act. She makes her own choices! Sometimes they really do suck, but they're her own, and she's a believer in her own accountability. She also tends to drive other people down certain paths she thinks are best for them -- which isn't the same as dragging them along hers, although that, um. Happens.
10. Which is her default: fight or flight?
With only those two, it tends to be fight, but she's fled situations where she feels overwhelmed by grief, because she tries so hard to be the tower and untouchable and little miss bombshell perfect whatever-you-need for everyone and the recent bouts of overwhelmingly crushing sadness and grief are, you know, none of those things. I would say it is more of a "stands her ground" kind of thing. She considers herself something of a pacifist.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
It tends to be on the sly side - I guess "mature" would be a good way of putting it? She also likes well-turned innuendo, in-jokes, dry humor. Sometimes she can get into the silly, zany sort of thing, depending on her company, but it's not her natural default, much as she enjoys it. She loves to tease people, especially men.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them?
Ahaha okay. As a child she was a strong, strong contender for all kinds of issues which were spurred by the fact that other people felt like something she could drain of all their energy to protect them from sin and all of their problems (it was benevolent! That's what made it so awful!) and she got constant headaches and self-medicated with drugs all the time -- she did do very well in school, but that's because it was one of those things she could delve into whole-heartedly and distract herself. She was never officially diagnosed with anything, but her teachers wondered. IDK, "descended from angels/the devil" is not really a disorder, it just fucks you up psychologically. Her mother was worse-off than her and never learned to cope, never managed to have many good relationships, couldn't keep a job, and just constantly felt like there was this war she was supposed to be fighting but never knew what it was, so she fought...everyone else in her life, being more of a warrior type than Hasibe; this was easier to define. Her mother's middle name was 'Lillake,' for the record, which means Lilith, and Hasibe's stage name, Norea, is that of 'the younger Lilith,' which tells you all you need to know there. These are not women who ever thought they could be psychologically healthy.
More than that, though: Hasibe was in love with and married a man who a) left his much more respectable girlfriend, Emma, for her, when Hasi was just this prostitute with too much joie de vivre and a bizarre upsetting life, b) turned out to have a murderously psychotic serial killer split personality that almost destroyed Boston until Hasi stopped him. When Hyde was active, he was not really very concerned about things like "consent", because he viewed Hasibe as his woman, his property, and the object of his sexual obsession, so...that happened to her. They all loved each other very much, but some part of her, when she finally married Henry and Hyde reappeared and she had to kill him, was not really surprised. This does not negate the fact that she's still extremely traumatized, a year later, and has questioned whether she'll ever be able to be in a relationship with a normal person again; she already tended toward worrying men, but it's much stronger now, like she's looking for another Hyde. She is not okay with this. It is causing some self-loathing issues. She was lonely and passionate and full of life and longing for intensity when Hyde met her and she is still all of these things now, and she knows this is the state that gets her into trouble. And now she's also kind of sad and wistful; most of the time she's 99 percent okay, and then there is the occasional day where she breaks down in sobs for an hour or two.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
Her mother's death, having her powers bound, falling for Henry and Hyde, losing Henry and Hyde (and blaming Telesis for it, since she knows they tampered with the chemicals he used), discovering more about her ancestry (though she has not quite realized the full significance yet).
14. What does she fear?
Hyde in herself; losing her autonomy; the soul-nomming hunger she had so tightly bound.
15. What are her hopes or aspirations?
She would like to have her own, really free life, and to make it one Henry would be proud of (which does include falling in love again, even if she presently finds this so painful to think of, and she does wonder what he'd think of that particular aspect), and one day to see him again when she dies, too.
16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
...her entire fucked-up past? Her lineage? A few people know her name isn't Norea Serhati, but she generally keeps that quiet, too.
relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
Lee: Hasi's dad was and has always been pretty much a non-entity in her life. She's wistful about him, but he's so normal that she thinks her very presence would just cause irrevocable chaos in his life and while she doesn't think they'll ever have much of a relationship, she also does not want him to hate her. So. She just...leaves him alone in deadbeatlandia. He honestly just could not deal with loving witches or living with them, which is awfully sad, but understandable.
Zeynap: Hasi's mother was very powerful as a witch and also super intense. Take the most hardcore and vehement anarchist and fighter of corporate evil you have ever met and multiply them by like, four thousand, and then give them superpowers. She loved her daughter a lot, but when you see into people's heads and fates, you find out a lot of unpleasant shit, and you can either accept it or start to loathe them for it. Zeynap was torn between the two, and she drank to try and cope, unsuccessfully. Her intelligence, principles, and passion did, however, have a huge influence on Hasibe as a person, and Hasi was devastated when she died, especially since Hasi was only a teenager at the time. They fought constantly, what with those strong personalities, but they were a unit.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
She has step-siblings from her dad's new wife, but has never met them.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
Alas, not much by way of family.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?
Not really, no! Also she keeps fucking her lady-leaning friends, so that would be kind of gross. WAIT NO I tell a lie, although some of that is still true: there is Martel, because he is married and was BFFs with Henry; he gave her away at the wedding and saved her brains once when she sewed Henry and Hyde back together psychically for a while. He'd be kind of a formerly-evil uncle type, I think (she never saw him in his evil days). He has tried to suggest perhaps she should not do X stupid thing this week, especially if X stupid thing is "sex with someone wildly inappropriate". Some day she will even listen, Martel, because she loves you, and you are familiar in the ways of pretty basketcases with magical powers. That version of the story is called "The Elenium," I am pretty sure.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Wes Lode! They've known each other for years, since Hasi was a newb in Boston. He is her dog's foster daddy and sometimes wears her panties and is not pretentious enough to have a muse, but if he weren't, Hasi would totally be it, Wes, don't lie. She is going to be in his movie about glambots; it will be fabulous.
6. Does she have other close friends?
A few! As noted, she's better at getting into other people than letting them get to know her. And I am not sure how to classify the deal with some of the guys she knows because Hasi describes things more casually than the reality. She has a lot of friends, "close" is what's variable.
7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?
Very easily.
8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends?
Friends.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?
Hasi is widowed. She loved her husband maybe too much, even when he was being a serial killer, which made mercy-killing him an even more hideous experience for all involved. When they got shit on track and managed to be semi-healthy, their relationship was D/s, with her as the submissive, and he really really was her whole world, she'd always been very independent and he was the first person in her life to take care of her; Hyde's nickname for her was "princess".
10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
She's dating/sleeping around! More on that in crushes.
11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?
Her first crush was older, probably a police officer or criminal. Basically, someone with power in some way -- I'm inclined to think a criminal of some kind if only because her mother would have taught her that cops were dirt and she'd only have unlearned that automatic dislike in college.
Recently she has stuff going with US Marshal Raylan Givens, who incidentally strongly resembles her husband plus five years, a Kentucky accent, and a cowboy hat, making this fucked up. It's not why she likes him, he has a very different nature to Henry and she thinks he's great on his own merits, but there are a lot of problems with their repeated rendezvous; Hasi is pretending that because they're from different worlds and meet up in Xanadu they can have this dreamland friendship with benefits where they can do whatever and there are no consequences. He's a bit scary. She digs scary.
Even more complicatedly, there is Bellamy Morray, who seems, to her eye, to be suppressing maybe entire universes, or at least keeping them under lock and key, so naturally she wants to know everything. Wisely he does not seem to trust her all of the time, or maybe himself, but she really likes him and has never been quite so rebuffed by a man before, even if they are actually going on dates--she's not sure how to explain it, but when he keeps her at arm's length it just makes her more determined to show him that she can be good for him. He's a Detective Inspector from a very wealthy English family and has awesome tattoos.
ALSO I THINK SHE WAS HOOKING UP WITH BRUCE?? They're cas. buddies, he's known her forever (or: since I started playing her, way back on her old journal). Bruce is awesome because he sees through all her insane image bullshit and trolls her. She is trolled by Batman. Additionally she makes a good "I have to go to a stupid event and be the richest person in the city" date; it is something of a specialty, in fact. Look, other people are good at math.
I will probably update this later because Hasi is a ho.
12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?
Intelligence both emotional and mental; communication (in some form or another); alpha males; well-dressed men or at least those with distinctive style; physical strength; ungentle gentlemen; people with secrets; game-playing or a sense of intensity. Danger. The ability to give her an adrenaline rush, to feel like they're their own world. She will seduce and initiate flirting, but she does like to be chased. She also demands a certain degree of attentiveness in a relationship--it's not to the extent that she's needy emotionally, but she needs someone at least halfway as intense as she is, and that is not insignificant.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?
She has no children, but has had an abortion before; she likes the idea of kids, but is concerned that because of her abilities, it wouldn't be right to pass that down to another child. Her grand-uncle was born with telepathy so potent he heard the entire world all at once, and didn't survive infancy because of it. Hasibe's got enough human blood in her witchy line that she's not sure a mortal body could withstand whatever powers the kid ended up with in the genetic lottery, and in turn, she's not sure she could bear to lose a child- she'd be very protective. She tries very hard not to think about it anymore, lest she get sad.
14. Does she have any rivals or enemies?
She definitely has rivals- that's the industry. Jade (a senior dancer at Alkahest who doesn't like hardly any of the other performers, feeling they've not earned it), and countless other women. Numen/Telesis for enemies, even if there's kind of a disturbing waltz of spydom coming up in that regard.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the
Kinsey scale?
2-2.5; she's been attracted to other women sexually and has slept with them (former escort; duals were sometimes part of things, and she didn't mind) but has never pursued a relationship with one. As I've "subtly" hinted, she has some lingering issues with men that keep drawing her back to them.
16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
When she was escorting, she would go through sex burnout once in a while. Now that her job is legal, that...happens less. Probably unsurprisingly with everything else here, it's a huge deal, she tends to have multiple friends with benefits arrangements, and is pretty creative sexually. She's technically a switch, but would be happiest in a milder D/s relationship, fulfilling the s role, but it really depends on the dynamic that develops and the nature of the chemistry there. Her sex drive is pretty ridiculous, and she is an incorrigible flirt. Almost nothing scandalizes her, and she doesn't feel any particular compulsion to show off how much sex she's having, but she doesn't really give a fuck if people know unless there are extenuating circumstances, either. It's her life--her sex life, and she loves that part of it.
17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Hasibe doesn't like latex, is kind of tired of threesomes, and has approximately zero interest in Daddy doms or ageplay. She is very communicative and honest about what she wants and likes, and some of those likes include being told what to do, psychological domination, a degree of humiliation/exhibitionism, biting, slapping, belt-whipping, choking, following certain rituals/rules. She does like pain quite a bit! This is stronger than it used to be; Hyde did sort of change her tastes a bit, so there's kind of an element of shame associated that, which makes it more intense. She's experienced subspace a lot, mostly with Hyde/Henry, and really fucking loves it, but it's not something you want to delve into with a random. Hyde did get her to do some things sexually (mostly in terms of intensely disturbing roleplay scenarios) which were sort of degrading, but those are also not things she expects most people will ever ask of her, so she tries not to worry.
Also, filming it: never going to happen again.
beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does she fit type?
I believe she is a Cancer (sensitive, compassionate, intuitive, a cardinal/leader sign) with a Leo ascendant (fiery, extroverted, charismatic), born in a Rat year (first trine, manipulative, hedonistic, tenacious, intense, charming). Most of it suits her awfully well, I'd say, thank you very much.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
Hasibe would define herself as 'spiritual'; her mother's family was Yazidi until falling out of it, Dad's is agnostic. She incorporates a lot of Eastern spirituality into her beliefs, thanks to practicing Kundalini yoga, but is fascinated by the religion of her ancestors, only partially aware of how close she really is to the truth.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
She is crazy empathetic and does have things she believes are absolutely wrong (...you know, rape, cold-blooded murder, stuff like that), certainly. But she will hear people out, even if that doesn't necessarily change her opinion, and she doesn't jump to conclusions. She also is becoming increasingly devoted to what she perceives to be true liberty and will take steps to uncover injustice when she finds it, but really prefers to avoid acts of violence--or rather, committing them. She's always around violence and violent men in particular, but it's like she absorbs the violence committed against or around her, internalizing it, rather than perpetuating it--which doesn't mean she's not involved, in her own messed-up way. Emotional blackmail/hostaging others' welfare might get her to bend her rules.
4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
It really depends on the beliefs--Hasibe does actually think that extremism can be good, thinking the world needs more passion, but knows it often yields short-sightedness. She can be around people others find truly vile or intensely terrifying, as long as she retains her analytical empathy, due to that aforementioned absorption and transmuting of their bad behavior. But when she's had enough, she says her piece, and she walks away, and that is the end of it.
5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?
Perceived emotional shallowness; a lack of dynamic personality, or of growth and change. This is also why she doesn't have any real interest or antipathy regarding vampires, most of whom are not really prone to changing a lot over the years, barring some exceptions. (They're dead, they're supposed to be frozen, but still.)
daily life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Hasibe appears to be pretty wealthy. In French, what she is would be called une demi-mondaine, a woman who lives a wealthy lifestyle mostly on her charms. It's not quite a prostitute -- though Hasibe is a former escort -- but sort of its own social class. She has a lot of jewelry and lives in a
really nice apartment and does pretty well; one day she does want to live a life free of depending on her ability to flirt, though, she thinks that would be a novel experience after the last ten years of it. She had it briefly with Henry, but obviously that didn't last, and she's not remotely ashamed of what she does.
2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?
It depends--in terms of social class, no, she is not high-ranking, though if her acting career takes off, that may change. Former callgirls tend to still be pretty low down on the strata, and people whispered about it when she got together with a respectable intellectual like Henry. Most people don't know she used to be a callgirl, mind, she doesn't broadcast it, but she knows how the past is, and she's staying prepared for the possibility her old career will be mentioned sometime.
3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?
Linking again! She also still owns the house in Ithaca that she and Henry bought together.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?
Living fabulously. Old books, antiquities, magic supplies, relics, shoes, coffee, lingerie, pet care, movies, camera equipment, charity. Lots of charity.
5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?
Besides the sort-of job described above, she is an actress/singer/dancer at Alkahest, and she's quite good. Her legitimate film career promises to be satisfying, too.
6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?
Partyin'. There's a lot of that going on--even when she's in Xanadu, she often ends up at the local bar, Stigmata. Working out (yoga), taking care of her pets, platonic and not-so-platonic socializing, shopping, movie-watching, photography, baking, reading everything she finds remotely interesting, obsessively tracking politics in the Middle East, honing her witchcraft little by little, day by day. Fire-dancing--any kind of dancing, actually, always.
7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Hasibe does actually have a really healthy relationship with food, hooray! Her sweet tooth is not going away, but she knows how (and loves to) cook for herself, and she's mostly reasonably healthy. She used to try dieting, but she doesn't really need to, it was only out of vanity; if she's ever worried about her body, it's something she can probably manage in the gym, not the kitchen. She drinks a lot of water to try to balance out all the liquor and smoking, though.
