1) saw Nixon in China at the Portland Opera last night. it was a fine performance and staging.
2) did happy hour at the Old Spaghetti Factory prior to the opera. it sucked: screaming kids, families, poor food. decent martini, even though it came with three lemony olives-not enough to redeem the experience.
3) went to Good Taste Restaurant on northwest fourth street in Chinatown for a lunch of BBQ pork chow mein (hong kong style). it was awesome; this is the cantonese BBQ place I've been wanting to find for years. the place smells wonderful and there is duck and pork hanging inside the front. amusingly next door to a vegetarian restaurant, though.
